I broke a oil pan bolt off in the block. So now I have to drill it and retap it. The engine bay I paint semi gloss black. Now I think I want to paint the block how hard is this to do ? What do I need to get for it ?

Clean,Clean,Clean the block. Grind off any burrs or rough spots on the block(optional). The parts store has high temp. paint in a spray can that works pretty well. Don't forget to clean the sh#t out of the Block. Its not real hard to do, and the better you prep the block to recieve the paint the longer the paint job will last.

I just clean it real good with hot hot hot soapy water and get all the oil off. then tape up the cylinder deck surface and whatevery else you don't want paint on and spray it down with the high heat engine paint.
Red is nice, but I usually just stick with ford blue (just for performance and reliability though)

I used some ford blue high heat engine paint that was like 2 dollars a can for mine. It was the color of the original engine that was in my 81 that got blown. so when i replaced it the used junk yard engine i got was really faded so i cleaned it really good and spray painted it ford blue and it still looks pretty good if it didn't have oil and stuff all over it.

Look in my gallery, I completely wire brushed my explorer block with my 4 1/2" grinder, used a dremel to get to all the tight spots, use lacquer thinner to clean all the surfaces and used Krylon duplicolor paint at about 5-6 dlls. per can, im very satisfied with the results.
On the oil pan my neighbor has a sand blaster so he blasted it, I primed it , sanded it and painted it.
And since i own my own fastener buss. Im topping everything with stainless steel bolts :D
On the pulleys I had the original ones sand blasted and powder coated.
Takes a lot of elbow grease, but the secret is all in the prep work, and using good paint.

Thanks, im just hoping that when she turns 15 she doesnt hit me up for an import 8O
Theres still a lot of detailing to be done to it, its gonna need paint soon, and replacement of the doors, and trunk cover, 40 years of rust isnt good :( New headliner and im going to redo the engine ala the explorer shortblock, so its an ongoing project.
