:(
Was at my local scrap yard and found out that a 79 Pace car got scraped.
Told it was bought for $50 and the air dam , hood scoop Were the only things saved. Such a waste.
Also its rumored that a Pair of MINT unused Pace CAR seats are sitting in a barn(I hope not really in a barn). I'm tracking them down but not much luck.
I'm also trying to get the cars Vin thought someone may want to know what happened to the car later on.
Sorry for the sad story.

What a shame to crush the car. I own a couple pace cars and have stopped at several salvage yards in the state looking for parts only finding a couple pace cars. A couple months ago I had a funeral in a small town and stopped at a junkyard that had a pace car that I’ve been trying to buy. When I got there, they were crushing all the cars including the pace car. I managed to get a few loose parts and the VIN but they wouldn’t sell it to me or wait an hour or two for me to find some tools to strip parts. I watched it crush with lots of good parts. Sad but salvage people don’t care. I was also to late to save a 55 F100, 71 Chevelle SS, and 70 Nova SS that were in OK shape. What a crime…

It's really hard to keep cars around when they're getting $160 aton. They really cleaned out all the cars around me, back yards, barns and fields.
But here in Michigan they are mostly piles of RUST.

Not to sound stupid but when they crush the car do they take out the seats or other interior items?
Thanks,
David

No. They pick it up with a loader thru the windows and drop it in the crusher. No parts were taken off. They are looking for the fast buck not restoration parts. Nice huh....

Man that is like a hit in the gut!! It would be nice if they would let you gut the car before they crushed it. Man all that nice glass and sheetmetal.

Netherlands? I had no idea that Ford exported Mustangs. Did Ford of Europe produce the Mustang too? Or were they just exported?

Except for the 2005 Mustang, Ford always exported Mustangs. There was even an experiment for an assembly-line in Netherland if i remember well, a few samples '65/'66 built.
Don't know for other European countries, but here in France, last official imports (Ford France) were 400 '79 and we still have a bunch (well for our size and according to gaz price here) of Mustangs. We even host Henry Ford II convertible and what's believed to be the oldest daily-driver (not really daily, but runs often) Mustang (VIN 100145). Not that bad ;)

TuxStang is right, and there was an assembly-line in the Netherland for the early production years

79indypacecar - your car in the album looks really nice. I can't believe how pristine that interior is. How long have you owned it? is it all original?

Thats stupid on the junkyards part, other than the fact that it was a pacecar they crushed theres alot of rare parts that sell for some big money.

The local yard is in the process of cashing in. All the cars are piled ready to be shipped. Glad to say no foureye for this car guy in this case.

Capri50 - Yes the interior is original. I'm the second owner of the car. The first owner was an older gentleman from Minnesota. He ordered the car during his self confessed "midlife crisis". :D He took great care of the car. I got really lucky finding the car.
