I posted this on another message board too, but the more responses the better...

A couple of different people are waiting on me to set something up to look at these Cobra's, if I'm interested. The problem is I'm not sure about either of them. Both have something about them that is making me turn away but am I being to picky?
The Yellow 98 has 3.73's, alpine head unit, speakers replaced, viper alarm, aftermarket short throw shifter, welded in flowmasters. He says the transmission doesn't grind, and the car has accel coil packs, thats about it, oh and he says he always replaces the oil ever regularly with 5w30 royal purple synthetic. He said it runs great and has 55,000 miles and needs nothing. Maybe 55,000 hard driven miles? He wants 12,700 for it.

The 97 is all original, unmodified and has about 57,000 miles. The owner said that the transmission was rebuilt at 51k miles as well as the clutch cable, flywheel, etc. It's red with tan interior. I don't like tan interior at all but this interior is pretty clean. He wants 10,600 for it. The car was originally from Virginia(I pulled a carfax report). Chances are this car was garaged during the winter, but the fact that it's a Virginia car still makes me nervous and I just don't know about that tan interior. He's been trying to sell this red 97 for over a month now. I've been watching the classifieds and he keeps contacting me asking me when I plan to look at the car.

Okay I wont be posting stuff like this about every cobra I am interested in but these two have me thinking. I might just say forget both of these and not get any cobra for awhile and just keep browsing the classifieds for awhile.

you don't mind the tan?
Am I the only one that doesn't like the red on tan combo?

The red one seems to be the better of the two.

The red with a black/tan interior really doesn't bother me much. The fact that it's ORIGINAL and un-mod'ed is what I like.

Funny thing, It's the red paint that I don't like, but it's better than yellow. If that Red was black with the Black/tan interior it'd look even better. Corse, I really don't like red or yellow cars... I feel that their too much of an attention getter.

I don't mind the whole attention getter aspect of it all. The thing is with the red, is that my 86 GT is red and do I really need 2 red cars? I wish the 98 Yellow were all original.

if your spending that much on a car, you really should love it the minute you see it. otherwise your going to end up like many who rush into things and have buyers remorse.

There are enough of them out there. I'd wait for the one you are crazy about.

I think i'd have buyers remorse about the red 97. I can't stand the interior. It's not bad but i'm definately not feeling it either. the yellow one is modified but honestly i don't mind the mods that were done to it. I'm gonna at least look at the yellow one and see how it runs.

How much off the price on the red one will eliminate your buyer's remorse? Offer him that price.

The red one sounds like the better deal. I like the color better and the tan isn't half bad either....and it hasn't been toyed with.

Besides, when you go to sell it, red always sells better.

I dont like leather period. But you should never "settle" for a car that you dont 100% like. Especially if its something you cant easily change.

Have you ever owned a red mustang? It attracts cops like flies. BIGTIME. I had a red fox for 2 years and couldnt go more than 1-2 weeks with an expired inspection/registration without it being noticed.

Even when not driving fast you'll "feel" the red attracting stares......

The tan interior is oooooogly but the car is stock and thats a HUGE plus.

The red one looks like my old '97 Cobra, except that it had a black interior. Trust me, the black interior looks a hundred times better than the tan. If you do not like the tan now, you will hate it all that much more after you have been driving the car for a while. Never settle, as you will regret it.

Why was the tran's rebuilt on the red car at 50k... Why has it had three owner's? why doese the car fax go from 3,400 mile's to 24,580 mile's in one month?

it sounds to me like the red one has been abused or has been a problem child.

I like yellow cobra's.........

the mileage thing is weird, definately makes me wonder. And the transmission being rebuilt at 50k scares me. Those two things alone have been scaring me away from the car. If I do decide to pick up the yellow cobra, there is a good chance i'll return it back to stock, which isn't a big deal IMO.

Yeah the price on 96-98 Cobras has had me thinking twice about it. Its tempting. To make it worse, there was a sweet BAB 98 Cobra here in FL on ebay with a beefed up suspension. The auction ended at like 9K with reserve not meet. It sure was a sweet looking car too.

Here's another one I was dreaming of...

The red one "looks" clean, except that he can't sell it, and it's so much cheaper than the others, and it's a virginia car, hmmmm.

I'm saying the yellow, only because you're gonna do those mods anyhow.

the t45's in these cars are known to have problems, they don't seem to last long behind the cobra

Ten bucks says he'll have a t56 behind it in no time

The T45's BLOW.... and I do mean BLOW BIG TIME - both in a literal sense and physical sense... IF you are one to make quick shifts (even with an aftermarket shifter). I you are just driving around town enjoying the car, there should not be ANY trans problems at all.

As for the two pictured - I'd say the red one as well.

1998 Chrome Yellow Cobra -
5 w/black cloth (coupe or vert)
704 w/black leather (coupe or vert)
tan interior was not available

1997 Rio Red Clearcoat Cobra Convertibles -
811 w/ saddle leather (coupe or vert)
13 w/saddle ccloth (coupe or vert)
39 w/black cloth (coupe or vert)
1131 w/black leather (coupe or vert)
Total 97 Cobra Rio Red convertible w/ saddle roof and saddle leather: 466
Total 97 Rio Red Cobra convertibles for the year: 925
Total 97 Cobras for the year: 10049

~~~
One of my good friends bought a 1996 Laser Red Cobra convertible, saddle roof & saddle leather and it's a really nice color combo when seen in person. Even I am not too fond of the saddle color, but it does look nice against red - it just looks out of place because it's "different" I guess.
Personally - you have to decide one more thing - it's one thing to want to purchase a Cobra - it's another to decide if you really want a convertble or a coupe... Ask some questions about the SN95 convertibles to get a consensus on how they hold up, what repais (if any) are instore with the soft top, mechanical parts, etc... How are they when compared to earlier Mustang convertibles as far as water laks, wind noise, etc.
Phil both cars are actually hard top. A red 97 with tan interior coupe and a yellow 98 coupe with black interior.
I don't really like tan interior so I think i'm gonna pass on the red 97.
I was going to arrange a time to look at the yellow 98 but the guy says he doesn't have the pink slip. **** it. Why does everything have to be so difficult? He said he's still making payments on the car and that his credit union(lein holder) still has the title. Well this is just wonderful. He says he can accept a bank note and let me know when the title comes in. Umm yea I don't know. How does this work with lein holders? I'm ready to say forget it with the yellow one and keep looking. I just want to find someone with a cobra, drive it, like it, give him the cash, sign the paperwork and drive it home, pink slip in hand and signed over. I don't have time to drive back and forth to chula vista multiple times.
only 96-98 cobra's. I'm looking for something fun that I can daily drive so I can park the 86 and finish doing what I have planned to it.
