throttle cable

on my throttle cable there is the normal piece that attaches to my carb. and then on that there is a black piece that attaches to that. it looks to slide freely and i took it off and my car runs fine with it off to the side. what is this cable????

Cruise Control cable?

I hope it's not the TV cable for an AOD, or it won't be fine for long if you try to drive it.

its a 5spd. i figured it was crusie control. i have all that tooken off so no need for it. i drove the car and it was fine. but i wontbe able to tr again til i replace my headgasket
