The shaft that goes through the firewall will come out easily, but going back can be a pain sometimes.

I agree. It is a two-man job putting it back together. I'm just lucky that I saw the nut and bolt above the little U-joint; I was about to take teh U-joint off when I was removing the steering column a little while ago.
