im just curious to see whats the widest tire you guys have run on factory ten holes without major rubbing issues ... im thinking of powercoating the set i have black and keep the center caps silver to look like the police rims... i think it looks good even for 10 holes !! thanks

275/60/15's will fit, but are kinda tall....
255/60/15 will also work...
265/50/15's will not!!!

For a daily street driven car, I'd think you exceed what would be safe or look good for a 7" 10-hole wheel before you would have rubbing issues.
I have a set of 10.5x26 slicks mounted on 10-hole wheels, and I rub the Quads coming making the turn on to the return road. Flipping the Quads would fix the issue I think.
You can still see the tire bulging out the side pretty bad. 10.5" would be about 266mm. Technically I think you could probably mount 255s and have no rubbing, but I think anything over 245 would probably be pushing the amount of sidewall bulge that would be considered safe and not look wrong.

Putting oversized tires on narrow rims is a waste of money. What happens is that the sidewall bulges and the middle of the tread flexes inward, giving you an uneven contact patch. This sucks for traction and tire wear. Either get wider rims or stick with stock sized tires.

i understand what you guys are saying , but like i said before i would like to put 245's but was wondering about fitment and rubbing ... i've seen 245's on pony rims and they are the same width as 10 holes and they looked good, not alot of buldge ... im not trying to overkill the rim/tire deal, just want the widest, and safest tire for the rim .... 225's fit perfect but just not wide enough ...

I ran 245-50-15's on 10-holes all-around for quite a while on my '88 5-liter, and never had any problems. But I don't know if the front fenderwells of the 4-eyes are smaller than the front fenderwells on my '88 or not. And yes, I did flip the quad-shocks - not certain if I really had to or not, just did it on principle.
But if you run the 245-50-15's, be aware that they will be about an inch shorter than the stock tires, and that will lower your car by about 1/2".
My son is currently running 265-50-15's on 10-holes on the rear of his '85 GT. Again, the quad-shocks were flipped, and the clearance is close on the quad-shock but there is no sign of rubbing. Of course, 265-50-15's would never fit up front, so if you want to run the same size all-around, 245-50-15 is as big as you can go.
Whatever the dynamics of a 265-50-15 tire are supposed to be when launching on a 7" rim, I'll guarantee you that the '85 GT leaves a lot harder on 265-50-15's than it could on the stock 225-60-15's.

u can also roll ur rear fender lips under to pick up 3/8-1/2" or so too if ur rubbin on the tires ur using, also flipping the quads will help. if i remember correctly u can get the quad shock mount out of a granada or something, maybe a cougar (not sure xactly) and use the frame mount for the quad shock to move the mounting point in a lil bit for more room

old lx, just so you know, the four-eyes do have a little less room under there than the aeros

slickshift,
The aeros went to a larger front fenderwell in 1991, when they went to the 16" Pony rims and tires. I wasn't certain if there was any difference between the 4-eyed front fenderwells and the early aero front fenderwells through 1990.
The rear fenderwells look to be the same, at least from the way tires fit on the back of my son's '85 GT and my '88 5.0 LX. Don't know about whether or not the rear fenderwells got bigger on the Fox-bodies in 1991 along with the front fenderwells or not.
