You may have been joking, but if done right....that can be the slickest color. Super dark plum deep metallic. Almost black but just not quite.

At one time I thought if I ever got a '85/'86 Mustang GT, I'd have it custom painted black with all of the GT graphics painted in a super dark plum metallic with all the edges blended smooth and clear over the top of it all so the graphics would have almost a ghost effect. The car would look completely black until the sun would hit the metallic in the graphics and really light it up!

I had my mind made up to do an Epoxy coat on my garage floor, but after looking at your photos, I now want to copy your floor. Where can one get that 'grassy' oil absorbing floor appearance? Home Depot, Lowes?

The back wheels look like they are sticking out quite a bit?
What is the backspacing on those wheels? Will the tires clearing the fender lip?

hah, I love your parts box collection, looks like you've been doing a lot of work!! Not a fan of the tails either, but I think the wheels will look good.
You have to understand, that the mustang community as a whole typically shuns away from 90% of visual type mods...wings/scoops/stickers, and the sort.
Coupester's flamed me quite a bit for my cowl hood lol. I was gonna leave my hood on, but people like my father come out, who's not into stangs, and tells me it would look good if not so tall. Oh well. Off it comes.
Do what makes you happy though, it's not like tail lights can't be swapped out in ten minutes.

Your car has potential, but i personally dont like the direction you're headed with it. I hate the taillights, the saleen wing, and the decal in the rear window. I think those just take away from the clean lines of a notch, or any car for that matter.
However, this thread was started for you wheels, and i think the wheels look ok on there, but why does the rear stick out so much?

I'm inclined to agree. The only reason I put a scoop on my 79 coupe was because the motor was sticking out of the hood and I didn't want my air cleaner to get rained on/the glare off of the air cleaner made it hard to drive.
HOWEVER that opinion only goes for 79-86. On my 88 LX (looks like a 93 GT) I plan on getting a Stalker front bumper, Cobra rear, Saleen side skirts & trim with a Saleen wing and a Twin Turbo hood. Everyone I know tells me how bad the Twin Turbo hood sucks, but I like it, so I'm getting it. Also getting the smoked headlights/tail lights. My brother put them on his Purple 90 GT and I think they look good.
... and what size are those rims?

the rims are 17x9 all 4 corners the picture is just making them look like there sticking out there actually pretty far inside the wheel well.im going with a 275/40 in the rear and a 235/45 front, the car has had a 4 inch cowl and saleen wing for about 4 years its getting a full saleen body kit,its not a stock car and with a big stroker motor and a roots blower on there im not interested in making it look like that.stock looking cars are nice but my car stands out from the rest of the mustangs in the parking lot.car will be painted purple with the white saleen door stripes.and again the tailights are staying

The personal "attacks" are kind of rude folks... The thread is about the fitment of the wheels - not how the owner *should* make his Mustang look to satisfy the feelings of those who don't have ownership of the said vehicle... The comments about the storage facility are rude as well - not everyone has a garage or storage facility structure in which to store or work on their vehicles. There is nothing wrong with the way the car is stored or being worked on, as long as the car is safely secured via the jack stands and the owner is safe while workig on it.
Everyone has a right to make, design, modify, upgrade or do anything they want to their own vehicle, regardless of what others think. Sure, some may not like it, but maybe take those comments up in PM's or emails, or not say anything at all, this way the integrity and original intent of the thread is not trashed.

Back to the wheels:
I know 17x8's will fit perfectly under a Mustang, specifically the 79-93, without any real issues, especially if running the stock mounted rubber. I know this for a fact, as I had OEM 17x8 Bullitts stuffed under my previously modified 90 LX 5.0 coupe and there were no issues at all.
17x9's under a Fox will be tight, especially if trying to run a 275/40 tire...
Are you sure a 275/40 tire is going to fit without any rubbing issues under the rear?
The rear rims as is, as that picture shows, do seem to stick out a little beyond the fender line. With that in mind, I'm picturing that once a tire is mounted on that rim, that there is a slight possibility that the tire will either sitck out beyond the fender OR possibly encounter some rubbing issues if and when the suspension is compressed.
Maybe if you can post a picture from a "straight line" shot down, as seeing down the rear quarter panel to the front of the vehicle, it would give a better perception of how the rims do fit (without rires). The best way to take the pic is, kneel down at the rear of the vehicle (at whichever corner you pick) and take the pic from the edge of the tail light so you see the entire length & side of the vehicle to the front... This will show exactly how the wheel fits under the rear fender.
Not to get off the 4Eye/Fox wheel fitment topic, but I know on my 1994 Cobra I can run 275/40's both front and rear with no rubbing issues at all, because the SN95 design differences do allow such a combo to work (of course the rear wheels/tires can be MUCH wider, as many have done this also).

its a perfect fit there is about a inch of clearance there is more room then when i had my 255/50/16 on the rear my fender was rolled up just a tad with the tire mounted it will be right at the fender should look great, also im thinking of just with a 255/40 in the rear with 235/45 in front so i can lower the car 2 inches

275/40/17's can be run in the back on 17x9's. I had that setup on one of my foxes. You'll have to clearance the inside of the fender with a BFH, ( just drive it around for 5 minutes and get it to rub. Then take the tires off and beat the crap out of it ) and I also took a dremel to the outer lip of the wheelwell and cut away the stuff that sticks inward, because if you dont, when the car is lowered and the suspension compresses it might rip a hole in the sidewall.
biggest I could fit on the front was 255/40. They only rubbed at full lock...but that was on a 91+ mustang ( fenders are different on the inside from what im told ) so you might have to go a bit smaller.

OK I think this got blown outa shape here. No one here is trying to crap on anyone, (excpet the car port guy). I think your wheels are gonna look great. I run 17x9s in the rear with a 255-40. I like it alot and have no issues. I would like to run the 275 tire but Im afraid itd rub. Im still runing my quads to with a 1/4in clearence. So any larger tire and the quads are history. What kinda tires you gonna run? Are you runnin quads or not? ttyl.

275/40/17's clear everything on the rear of my 86gt. It is lowered with c-springs and MM panhard bar. Under race conditions my right rear will rub very little on my tailpipe. Not enough to worry about. The fender lips have been rolled a total of 12" along the top. Quad shocks are still on.
Fronts are 255/40/17's that only (ONLY) rub at full lock on the inner fenders.
The car has factory 86 fenders, inner fenders, and control arms. It gets the heck ran out of it once a month while autocrossing. So its not gingerly driven. It does have factory 17X9 cobra r's.

Actually 5.0 Mustang has an article on just this subject. According to them the hatches have a little more clearance in the rear wheelwells than the coupes. The article is in the new Jan. issue and is about tire and wheel fitment.

good lord...i commented earlyer in this topic and read some of the crap you losers posted about his car and i just had to comment again.
Props to this guy for doing something other than putting the boring stock taillights on, or "restoring" a car that is barely 20 years old http://www.stlmustangs.com/forums/html/emoticons/lame.gif..he says that his drivetrain is already settled and now is moving onto the body..if he goes with the complete saleen kit(especially the newer style found on 87-93s http://www.stlmustangs.com/forums/html/emoticons/wub.gif ) then the car will look extremelly badass...get off the guys nuts for doing his own thing to his car
