I PM'ed for a clarification..

but, I agree with the rules as they are stated. Of course, there is the interpretation that will occur (see my post).

What exactly is a "leg humper".. I'm not going to describe what my feeble red neck mind pictured when i read that.... 8O

say.......you have a woman who owns a Mustang, and you have a group of sad lonely guys who say "I'ma think she's purdy" and they take that mentality to the extreme.........like to the point of following and fluffing her ego because she wants just that some times......

One thing to reduce some of the pain in policing the Classified would be to add a check box to the "posting page" saying something like:

I have read and am abiding by all of the rules setup in the "Revised Classified Guidelines".

This would only be shown when starting a new topic in the classified section. I would highly urge you to implement this on the site. There would then be NO excuse for people not reading it BEFORE they posted. 90% of the complaints seem to occur from people not reading the guidelines before hand.

If you do not have the ability to implement it, try getting somebody in the phpBB forums to code a hack up for you. Most people there are pretty quick. My skills at PHP are fairly limited at this point too.

Require the location field to be filled in before registering or at least before they post to the classifieds. I am going to try and implement this one soon on my phpBB. I will give you the mod for it.

I would add TWO things to the guidelines:

1. If the person parting a damaged car is uncertain if it "qualifies", they need to know who to ask about it. You may want to make it MANDATORY that ALL cars being parted go through a decision making process before being allowed to be posted.

2. Describe who and how that decision would be made. I would suggest that you decide to run the car in question by at least 3 people before making a decision. Having Foxchassis working as judge and jury does not make people feel good when his decision does not fall on their side, especially when they think they are doing the right thing. But when a group of people make a decision, often its MUCH easier for that person to accept the decision.

IMHO, these changes will FIX alot of the flameups around the classifieds.

I love his 1 and 2 suggestions. It may just work best to pm the "team" who is responsible for allowing the cars, so if someone has a car, rather than be posted up where everyone can view it first and debate it, the person with a parts car pms you guys with the pics, and your team decides if it's ok or not before he ever posts it, great idea, imo

Honestly, I'd rather people just abide by the rules to begin with.

I work 8+ hours a day, there's 2+ hours of commuting involved with that, I'm now going back to school taking two classes, I'm trying to get back into shape as I've injured myself recently from having turned into a lump of mush, and other stuff you guys don't want to hear about.

This last car parting issue was enough for me. I do not want to go through this every single time. Members need to be able to use their judgement first, and abide by all the requirements and make it so we don't have to go through this every time something comes up to be parted out.

You should ask the guys who were in the chat room what I've been going through the past few days with this issue, rule writing, rule revising and such. It took up waaaaay too much time. I can't imagine doing this on a regular basis.

And rarely is Mick/FoxChassis judge, jury and executioner on the big stuff. If I disagree with him or have suggestions, I let him know. Almost every issue that comes up here is discussed and there are several participants in each discussion. It may appear to be Mick all the time, but I am watching, and they are rules that many people have looked over that he is actively helping to enforce.

Making a pop-up box is no guarantee. I'm a scroller and box clicker, I don't read pop-up boxes (people are inherently lazy, and most of the "agreement" boxes all say the same thing, so they'll assume that, click with out reading and go on their merry way), and most people have pop-up blockers these days. People need to take responsibility for themselves, learn how to read and pay attention and deal with the consequences when they don't.

Holy crap, that's way too much typing for me without coffee....

I gotta rectify that situation.

I was going to just let this pass but I feel I'd add a little bit more of my $.02. I really like the site and would like it to be better. I'm trying to be constructive here and unfortunately I am not privvy to what went on behind the scenes so if everything was considered and debated and the way you are approaching it now is considered the best way...cool. My comments are in line with your reply below:

Honestly, I'd rather people just abide by the rules to begin with.

Agreed...but well, that isn't happening now and adding new requirements may not help that much as most people aren't forced to read the rules.

I wasn't suggesting that YOU had to be part of the decision making process. I'm sure there are 2 or three guys that you trust to kabitz for a bit and give it a yes or no.

This last car parting issue was enough for me. I do not want to go through this every single time. Members need to be able to use their judgement first, and abide by all the requirements and make it so we don't have to go through this every time something comes up to be parted out.

Yes, but the way you still have it setup, you will be going through this issue again and again and again. People are going to post up a parts car then everybody is going to bitch this way and that way and Foxchassis is going to catch flack and you'll be dragged back into the mix. The process must change. I see no way around that. I ask, what have you fixed? I see a few new rules. A bit stricter but nothing that fixes the original headache.

True....and you state one of the problems....it APPEARS that Mick is judge and jury. I'm trying to suggest a way that there is some "due process" of a decision being made.

True again. I wasn't actually suggesting a pop up box (as that can be annoying) but a check box on the page where the user types in their post. I would also put a bulleted list of the top 10 no-nos. Its an idiot who deserves his post getting deleted by clicking the checkbox and ignoring the warnings. People do read....but I its got to be in front of them. Putting the Guidelines as a sticky at the top of the Classified section is obviously not working. You need to keep moving the guidelines closer and closer to the user until the infractions abate.

Well, I hope you take this under consideration. I think you may be amazed at what a few "tweaks" can accomplish.

I still agree, and think this will undoubtabely pop up time and again. I'm more than certain there can be found on this site a very small committee of those who can be trusted to deal with this issue in a committee style, and this would allow you to delegate your responsibilities to help lighten your load.

Do we have any legit companies on the site that would be excluded from the 30 posts rule in the classifieds?

Wooden Spoon...you were a lucky Bastage Johnny Dangerously

Why when I was a kid if you were being good you got the Cat-O-Ninetails for Christmas. Breakfast cereal, when there was some was WOOD and ROCKS.

One year when I was 13 I got the best Christmas gift. I opened it and it was my old pair of pants that I always wore, execpt on that day because I couldn't find them. I said, "Dear loving and abundant care givers *SMACK* this gift youhave bestowed upon me is but the pants I have been wearing for 14 years *smack*" Caregiver unit #1 replies, "Putt'em on," (which I did) "now reach in the pockets!" I did that to find nothing but to holes big enough to slide my hands through.

Best gift I ever had ...

We have no companies on the site, that I know of. So far, we have zero paying sponsors.

Well - maybe this reply will get someone ticked off at me - but here goes...

I got a mod on my butt after I posted in the classifieds section and only had my STATE listed in my profile - the outlandish reply in my want ad was that I also had to have my CITY listed.

I for one do NOT believe that we should HAVE to list cities. Many of us have vehicles, parts, etc that we do NOT want others knowing the EXACT city in which we live in or reside near. Thieves scour these boards, they see what types of vehicles are "available" to their pickings, they see what kind of monetary value is out there not only in the said vehicles, but also PARTS listings and such.

I am not happy that I was "flamed" upon for not having my city listed - I already had my STATE - what difference does it make if I list my city or not? What importance or relevence does my city or anyone's city have to do with posting a "want ad" or a "for sale" ad? My complete mailing information goes to only those I do business with either when or if selling and/or buying.

I just don't feel that we should be obligated to and required to list our cities. I'm sure some will agree and some will disagree with my statements above, but I need to say the above because I just feel that the rules imposed are being way too strict and it's going to drive some folks away from the site. This site is great for info and it's run great for sure. I understand the need for imposing *certain rules*, as all boards have their rules and such - but requring a city as being mandatory for being able to participate on some of the forums is really kinda overstepping the ideology in keeping everyone "in sync".

I've lurked on here for quite some time, as most of my time is spent on Corral (are we allowed to say other site names?) and many other sites... so pardon me if I have said something above that offends anyone here.

Keep up the great work with the site, at least the "4 eyeds" are being recognized and restored. :)

People want to know whether or not to bother pursuing what you have for sale or offer (like a freebie that they don't want to ship) you something depending on your location. If someone says "California" or "Texas" or "Illinois" or such, well, there's a LOT of miles between someone in Chicagoland and someone in Edwardsville.

Thieves see you pulling into your driveway every single day, thieves follow you to the grocery store, thieves see your license plates and other identifying information anytime you go anywhere in your vehicle or even raise your garage door. The places where internet thieves run wild are typically local area/club boards where they're already close and know the area.

The rules are city and state. Nothing more identifying than that. Not street address, not zip code or phone number, not even your name.

If someone flamed you, shoot me a PM so I can deal with it.
