ok guys, dont reataliate, i know its not a four eye, but still, its a 92 lx in good condition, but with a blown 2.3 for $750 (obo) i would have to sell my ranger to get my parents to let me bring it home though (thats ok, im not that attached). i have a 3.0 out of an aerostar that runs good, or i might be able to go down to my local pick a part and grab a 3.8 or a 2.3 for cheap, untill i can get an explorer engine that is! so what do you guys think?(it at least needs to get good mpg, 40mi/day on 8hrs/week kinda sucks in a gas hog)

blown motor huh? I'd offer him 500, maybe less. I see perfectly good running 2.3L mustangs sell for 500-1000 around here.

For $750 it better be extraordinarily clean. It's not that easy to meltdown a 2.3. That guy must have done absolutely zero maintenance. If it were me, I'd pass and wait for a good running one if you're looking for a commuter car. I don't think the 3.0 swap is as easy as you think. Oil pan clearance, K-member, accesories, headers, tranny, etc., etc.,etc. Even if you have a FREE running motor it's going to be a PITA.

Just my opinion...trying to save you some headache and heartache.

Yea I agree, those 2.3's are hard to kill. if it has a blown engine, you might want to start thinking about the way the car was treated.

Are you sure the engine is blown?
I don't know how many times I've seen those with broken timing belts, and people will get rid of them cause they think the motor is shot.
Or a head gasket is blown so they figure the motor is shot.
I'd definately check it out first.

lx hatch. i'll ask him what happened to it exactly caused the ad sayed 1700 but when i called he said that the engine had let go and he was now asking 750. must have happened during a testdrive that it let go. makes you really wonder about maintenance. a agree about the 2.3. i beat my ranger (2.3 & 5gear) up one side and down the other and it doesn't seem to make any difference. but i take good care of it.
