awake at night I lay
tired as hell, yet no sleep befalls me
two nights in a row, staring up at the ceiling,
this is real F%$king gay
So tired my eyes burn with pain
ready for bed, adrenilin rush, wide awake, so tired
3 hours now, still awake, second night in a row
why does this happen, what do I have to gain?
will I fall asleep on my commute, will I fall asleep at work.
I REALLY HATE THIS, I'M TIRED AS ALL HELL, TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW, AND I CAN'T FRIGGIN SLEEP

Welcome to my world asleep at 4 am awake at 8 am... I can never sleep, I usually sleep after work, when I was working.. I make enough money painting cars for people now that I dont need a steady job though, so I go to bed late as usual and wake up around 10 or 11

it feeds off itself. I've never before been an insomniac, but stress seems to lead to this, and the more tired you are, the worse it is. You lie awake staring, ready for unconsciousness to bring itself, then you get scared, "what if I can't fall asleep again" uh oh, and there it goes, and you're so stressed out you won't fall asleep, you don't. Even a drowsy allergy pill didn't knock me out. I'm so stupid tired right now.

I have trouble sleeping also. Usually stay up till 2A.M. and awake for work at 6A.M. I pay for it though... I'll fall asleep in my chair, head on keyboard, and then awake to find out I've been napping for hours and no work has been done :) SO, I stay up to finish the work I missed while napping....it's a never ending cycle!

What do your meals consist of and how many times do you eat per day? Do you snack between meals and if so, what are the snacks? Do you exercise at all? If so, how many times per week, how long each time, and why type of activity is it (i.e. walking, or running, or weightlifting, etc.)?
Sure, stress has a lot to do with your health and how your body handles its normal functions (e.g. sleep) but diet and exercise both play VERY important roles as well.

You need to speed up your metabolism ... as mentioned, eat 6-7 meals per day, and drink at least a gallon of water.
Definitely get one hour of cardiovascular exercise per day (your heart rate should be at 60% capacity, roughly 155-160 bpm depending on your health).

you definately need to become more active Jeremy. You let your 10 dollar a month gym membership slip, otherwise I'd say start working out with me when I go.

In a stupid accident of male machoism, several years back in a moshpit I tore my acl ligament and minisus in my left knee. As a result, it would pop out of socket, and I'd have to stop and pop it back in. I dealt with this for several years, until the stars all aligned, and I took the time off for surgery last october (less than a year ago.) this was a VERY painful surgery. they drilled holes in my kneecap, cut out part of my hamstring, used it for a new ligament, re attached it with a bolt, and whatever, and sewed me back up to vegetate on the couch for a couple of weeks, and then have a grueling workout to get back up to strength and on crutches for a couple of months.
Welp, as was expected, a month or two, walking around my garage, I twisted my same leg, in what "seemed" minor. It apparently was enough to rip something loose again. Although it doesn't pop out of socket as much, it pops out at a much easier angle. Every step has to be planned and coordinated, or it'll pop out, and I'll almost hurl to the ground if I don't catch myself.
I've got a $1200 custom made knee brace, that works, but just good enough for long walks. As a result, I can't seem to do any cardiovascular workout worth a damn. I'm honestly lucky to be walking. I'm not sure what to do on this.
it's only in the last month or so that I've been trying to eat healthier, but I'm still not up to par. I've never before had any sleeping issues, and I've been stuffing beer, pizza, and crap into my mouth for ten years now.
I've done a lot of thinking an analyizing of life lately. 30 seems to be the year when age really starts catching up. I came into what I call a "sense" of mortality about a year and a half ago, and really found who I was, and how fragile life really is. I went on a river rafting trip. Because of storms, the water was at a 30 year peak, and I for once in my life was scared so turdless, that I couldn't do it on the second day. (traditionally, ive always been the tough guy, the sure I'll do it guy...hence my moshpit injury) I come back, and weeks later I develop anxiety attacks. WTF???? you think you're gonna die, literally, and start freaking out, and think you are having a heart attack. With a little help, I completely got over those, and learned a very hard earned viewpoint how precious life really is. As a result, I think I have become a bit of a hypochrondiac (sp?) and the slightest of wheezing, or muscular pain I wonder stupid crap, like am I dying, when in fact it's for example, allergies, and sore chest muscles from holding my 20 pound 4 month old.
what the past two nights were are an accumulation of health related stress coupled with the stress of thinking I won't fall asleep, which really happened.
I need to get fit, to lose some weight, I'm not overly overweight, but just enough to cause extreme sleep apnia and acid reflux, etc.
Sorry for blabbering. For me, this isn't super personal stuff, so don't think I'm weird and spilling my guts. I just wanted to share a viewpoint from someone growing older and dealing to cope with it.

jeremy, you gotta start talking to mom and dad more. Both of them know how to eat right. Dad especially knows how to diet right(he just doesn't do it).
The problem is your not motivated enough to make a change in diet. Maybe now you are but then ask yourself what you ordered at Mimi's cafe on sunday and look at what I ate. I guarantee you what I ate filled me up just as much as what you ate.

I know how to eat right, I know what to eat, I just can't and won't for some reason. Even when the consequences of being overweight stare me in face (need to lose about 55 pounds to get back to 205, my prime) I just can't seem to change.
I've started and stopped many bad habits without a problem. I don't have a completely additive personality, yet the hardest thing in the world is eating right and exorcising regulary...why??
I'm not quite sure.

because it's too easy to eat all the stuff you shouldn't. Only you can say why you don't eat right. Other than laziness, I don't know. It's like smoking. People know it's bad for them but they don't do something about the bad habit until something life threatening is happening to them. Maybe your addicted to all the bad junk food that you eat.

perhaps a guy has got to have one bad habit, I want one bad vice. I hardly drink anymore, and when i do, it's hardly any, I don't smoke anything (cigars 2-4 times a year) I don't have any bad habits, but damnit, if I want to wind down and relax from a hard day, I want a bowl of icecream before bed, and no damn vegetables with dinner!

i think the problem is your just addicted to food. You gain to much pleasure from eating where as I don't. It's a pain in the butt and it's expensive. I hate having to stop what i'm doing and eat. If I could survive without eating, I would. Think of all the performance parts I could buy if I didn't have to buy food all the time.

that's why you're exactly 100 pounds lighter than me ;)
this weekend alone sarah and I spent $100-$150 easy on eating out. pissed me off, but I couldn't do anything about it, weekend comes, so does family dinners and going out. WTF am I supposed to do, be a cheap ass and order a side salad??
huge quantities of money are thrown out the door for eating out.
btw, your car likely runs a tad hotter because that different fan clutch isn't locking on as much as it was before, and slips a little more. Likely means its running ok.

you don't have to be a cheap ass, but you can order a big dinner salad and tell them to throw some chicken in it. can't go wrong with that. green is good and so is chicken. you eat way to much red meat. So does thomas. I enjoy a big greasy hamburger or a nice tri-tip sandwhich with a heaping amount of bbq sauce but not all the time. if salads aren't your thing, order some sort of turkey sandwhich. you have to explore the menu at a restaurant.
oh and thats way to much $$$ to spend on eating out, wow, i don't know how you do it.
btw, i thought of that with the fan clutch last night. i'll see about picking up a heavy duty fan clutch and see if that helps it run cooler than the fan clutch i installed last night.

it's not that it's not capable of locking up and spinning quicker, it's just that your last one was locking up prematurely, spinning faster, and cooling then engine a little better. This one probably is exactly how you want it. It'll lock up better the hotter you get. You really should hook up that autometer temp gauge to know exactly where you're at

usually in bed by midnight
in return, my back feels 3490587% times better (torn tendons), my knee still bugs me, I rarely get winded anymore, when I sleep, I SLEEP, I'm 6'3" and weigh 165lbs with about 9% bodyfat, I'm more attentive in class.......and chicks dig me.

Drinking alcohol before bed is going to dehydrate you even further. Ideally, you should drink water before bed ...
v8only
09-29-2004, 02:23 PM
lots of experience with that. I drank several glasses of water before hand, and had a glass by the side of the bed. best way to prevent hangovers is to od on water before bed.
