My 86 has the 94-95 tri-spokes and when I turn the wheel all the way the wheels rub on the backside of the control arm. Is there anyway to correct this, other than grinding the control arm?

My '83 does this at full lock also (I have 15/7 wheels with 225/60). I ordered a set of 3/8 inch wheel spacers at a cost of $32. They have not arrived yet, but it should fix the problem. Some companies also make a kit to limit the travel of your steering rack. If it(the wheel) barely hits the rounded part of the arm, it shouldn't hurt the tire because how often are you at full lock and that part of the metal is quite smooth?

Mine are 15 x 8, spacer doesn't look like will work. It will put tire right under fender. And it's the wheel rubbing, not the tire.

I run 17x9 cobras on my 86 with 255/40/17's and mine rub at full lock on the rear of the control arm also. Especially while racing and climbing on the brakes for the corners. When I changed front springs to 850lbs that stopped the top from rubbing.
Someone told me to grind the lip off the control arm where it hits at. Looks like it shouldnt take much grinding, 1/8th-1/4 inch should be plenty.

here is a quick and easy fix.
Go to your Ford Dealer and ask for this part number
N804842-S it's a limiter for the steering rack. It only limits amount of travel from lock to lock and will stop that rubbing. The spacers cost $1.66 each and install in 15 minutes on the inner tie rod end.

I had to grind the control arms on my pick up when I dropped it, I removed at least a inch of it and have had no problems with it what so ever.
Grind it off

Something is wrong down there. I ran that same size tire and wheel size on my 82 and had no rubbing issues.
225/60/15 is the stock size tire for 85-90 5.0 Stangs from the factory. I would think on the 85-86's basically everything in the front is same as my 82 and your 83 it should fit like a glove. I remember my 89LX I had back in 1992 had the 225/60/15's on 10 holes rubbed and I found out it had a salvaged title from oklahoma with a heavy impact in the front.

I don't think there are any problems in the front end. It's only the tire that rubs at full lock, and only then enough to make a shiny spot on the arm. Plus, they are aftermarket wheels so my back spacing may be a bit different than the stock wheels or the ones you were running, mikejb. That and the car is just slightly lowered, maybe that has a bit of an effect, too. Actually, I had ten holes on it for a while and they did the same thing though. No salvaged title or anything, and there does not appear to be any evidence of front end damage and I got a real good look at it when I rebuilt all he suspension. Maybe just chalk it up to 'manufacturing variables'.

This is the easiest fix for your issue.
Stop trying to over work small issues by grinding anything!!!!
