Well it was a nice sunny day in NW Pa with a mild temp around 72 degrees. Around this time of year we cherish these days because we know they are limited.
Well I did a few mods that I have been curious about. I reattached the vacuum advance and backed the initial mechanical timing down. This gives me about 38-40 degrees total timing. I have to check my notes to see for sure. I know the vac advance gave 15 degrees in timing itself. With 17 degrees initial timing I had 31 degrees of mechanical. I hate to say it but I forget where I backed the mechanical down to. I will try and measure it tomorrow and post it.
I also got my hands on a Holley quick change secondary spring kit and popped the yellow sping in it. To my surprise it had a purple spring. Most of the Motorcraft/Holley carbs I have taken apart have the traditional black spring that is quite stiff.
I was running 87 octane gasoline.
1st run right off the drive there.
ET 14.99 @ MPH 92.03 with a poor 60ft of 2.313
I still have the warm fuzzies over my 1st 14.x run with this car
2nd run:
ET 15.087 (previous best 15.082) MPH 91.84 60ft time of 2.306
NOTE: I feel this could have been quicker and faster. The launch had decent feel. Then about 30-45 ft or so off the line I heard the tires start to make noise slowly and with in a short time they were officially loose until 2nd gear
Run 3
ET 15.157 @ MPH 91.60 ( previous fasted 1/4 was 91.657 ) 60ft 2.316
NOTE: Had the same effect on tires except was worse than before. I think as timing and secondaries are coming on strong the instant increase in HP to the rear wheels is compromising an already iffy traction situation.
The tires got loose about the 60ft mark and slowly got more loose until just before I shifted to 2nd the car started to slide sideways. Things I wish I could see when it happens to me LOL 8) Also I ran that run with sunglasses because the sun was shining directly on the track and right at me. What is funny is right about 1000 feet there is shade and for a split second it was night time with my dark UVEX glasses.
Run 4 I took it a little easier because I had a passenger, my youngest son.
ET 15.170 @ 91.04 with 2.22 60 foot
My plans are to go over the car this week and try and go out next Saturday. My 8.8 is making some clunking when backing up and moving forward initianlly. A few weeks ago I found the driveshaft loose and I tightened it up. I will have to check it again. If it is tight I will check the companion flange since someone previously replaced teh pinion seal and I have to guess it is not all that tight either. The clutch is letting me know that on occasion it is slipping on hard acceleration. Pass 3 gave me a little wiff of stink  plus the quadrant gave me some warning this past week when I hit the clutch real quick and it (the pedal) slipped but it went back into adjustment. I really hate changing those things too :P
So I'll nurse it along and see what can happen by next weekend.

I forgot to add.....
Calculated HP is 210.5 @ rear wheels http://www.race-cars.net/calculators/et_calculator.html using my base weight of 3460 which reflects 1/2 tank of gas but it actually had a full tank.
I was however down a passenger seat and have installed one 89 Escort GT seat. These are nice if you want to keep the stock appearance of your interior and BOY do they weigh less. I will get a weight difference posted too. I am guessing about a 10 per seat savings.
OK gotta go. Capri

I just thought of something......
Your race weight (3460) - Is that with you in the car?

Dont trust that hp calculator, its close though, it says that Im makin 210 to the wheels but I have actually had my car on a chassis dyno and it made 200.3 to the wheels.

Clunking 8.8...... Wonder if it may be the axles.

Yes that is with me in the car. I had it weighed on some Cat Scales near Geneva Ohio and I weighed in with just a touch over half a tank of gas.

Did the calculator know you have a aod and take that into consideration. And different dyno's will have different results with the exact same car.

I just tryed that calculator. It gave me a HP of 194. And when i inputed that into the ET calculator it came up with a 14.98 1/4. I ran a 15.1.. Thats pretty darn close.

HP = MPH in the 1/4 mile when you know the factored weight.
The Moroso Power Speed Calculator is the most inexpensive dyno you can buy. Now if you are tuning your car on a dyno that is one thing. But that calculator is more accurate than you think whether it is the Moroso one or the one I found on the web.
There was a guy locally that bought a chassis dyno and he was setting up Mustangs and other cars. His car was supposed to have 600hp at the rear wheels. Now his car weighed less than mine but using my weight and the 600HP the car should run 10.445 @ 130.49 which he was never close to that. he ran like 11.30's at best around 116-118 still no slouch, but not 600HP.
Ok I am done. Capri

Clunking 8.8...... Wonder if it may be the axles.
Well it has the sound of a U joint clunk, it sounds like driveshaft area. Could be axles, but seeing what has been done to the car before and the many things I have found loose just makes me think I should check the companion flange.
I'll post what I find, cuz you never know if someone else is having a similar problem.
Thanks for the input.... Capri

Capri -
What is your car's weight? I bet it is closer to the other Capri that was a heated discussion....
BTW - my car weighs 3300 with me in it and about 10-11 gallons of fuel.

Actually I see one of the places I buy parts from on eBay has a trak lok rebuild kit up for auction and I already bid on it.

Well, what do you weigh? I want to know what the car weighs, w/o you in it.
Also, what tools did you have...
Your car/driver weight is still 130 #'s more than my car (with little crap (crescent, vice grips, jumper cables, portable compressor, oil, etc.) in the car but more fuel.

Distributor Wrench
Timing light
Razor Scraper
Socket
Ratchet
etc Etc
and honestly I do not know what I weigh I haven't been on a scale in a few months and I don't recall what I weighed last time. 8O
But for me and my car that is the weight that the engine has to overcome to run the 1320.
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot there is a CD player and Kenwood amp in this car too along with what looks like a 12" sub in the spare tire well.

Well I do believe I found the problem with the noise. I am a little surprised but not that much. Turns out the pinion nut was a little loose. I tightened it up with my trusty IR 2135QTi and it took almost a full turn. On the drive home the pinion bearing started making noise. By the time I got home it was howling. Seems the next part in the car that needs replaced is that and why do just the bearings when you have 2.73 gears. I want 4.10's but if the kit I found on eBay is correctly advertised I will have to go with 3.73's I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks Capri

Ummm a trac-loc kit has nothing to do with gears... yu can rebuild yru track-loc and put 4.10s in... since I am in the middle of all of this I have been researching deep into it. Send me a private Pm with the kit your bidding on as you can trust I won't bid for parts I don't need. Not that i would bid against you anyway, I'm not that kind of person. I would like to check it out and see what it is your talking about.

The trak lok kit I am bidding on is a FMS set, but that is not the kit I was referring to in the most recent of posts. But I will still send you the link to both. Capri

ahhh I had missed this way back when. so i will respond to it now. I will try to remmeber everything i did as i did it over a period of time. I started off by removign teh fog lights and all associated wiring. I removed the front mretal piece that connects the bumper cover to teh cr and made two small brackets to connect it with. I removed all the sound deadening out of the car including teh tar paper. if memory servers me correctly the tar paper plus the insulation on teh carpet was almost 100 pounds total.(that includes all the dirt that was trapped in it) Inner plastic fenders are gone.
I took my parking lights out and shaved the bracket that holds them onto the bumper down. Anywhere there was wiring in the car i shortened it. any wiring not being used got removed from the loom totally. Anywhere there was metal i could shave down and still have my car safe on the road I shaved it down. You just have to remember little amounts of weight plus little amounts of weight ends up being bigger amounts of weight total. some days i just go stare at my car for a day or two and eventually I figure out something else I can shave a pound off of.
my saleen wheels are very light compaired to stock. Removing rotating weight is the best way to do it. lighter wheels and an aluminum driveshaft. I have been contemplating an aluminum flywheel. (lots of mixed oppinions on this, but my current clutch is already either on or off, not very easily slipped anyway)
