Ran my car for the first time at the drag strip tonight (Norwalk)... Saw quite a few four eye cars..... Still has 2.73 gears, street tires, blah blah blah

The good - Car pulled 99 MPH.
The bad - Car only went 14.5
The Ugly - 2.478 60'

Now for the even worse.....
The clutch would not hold.... It was literally smoking when I launched and would hold at 3000 til about 100 ft..... So, the clutch is shot.....

But, to add to it, my tranny whines through 3 gears!!!!!

And, I have one wheel peel (noted by rubber on the right and and nothing on the left[driver]).

So, I need a clutch and a trans.....

On a funny note, I lost my breather during the first pass... Went in, bought a new one.... and my oil pressure went up!!!!

With a clutch (thus being able to launch it) and getting a better 60', I am sure it would have pulled more MPH and ET (well, obviously the ET). Trying to slide the clutch , it would smoke and hold RPM....

Also weighed the car tonight... 3030 without driver with probably 10-11 gallons of fuel (3300 with driver - - What a fat a$$).... I filled up before I went because the fuel gauge does not work and neither does the speedo.... WHAT A HUNK OF CRAP.

Later all.....

Not bad.. Clutch, gears, rearend, and some sticky tires and that bad boy oughta run mid 13s..

I love the simplicity of the older car's..

My guess is low 13's / high 12's...

99 MPH surprised a few people tonight, who asked me what was going on with my car.... "Tires aren't spinning, but the motor is not turning....."

Love the smell of clutch.....

4.10 gears going into an rebuilt 8.8 with 26 X 9.5 Hoosier Quick Time Pro's...

Still need to run the spacer and get a cowl hood.... AND JEEPMAN1, THE @#$% WON'T FIT. I TRIED!

looks like you fell asleep at the wheel  but 14.5 @ 99 is good concidering you have 273's. I agree, once everything(clutch, rear, tranny) is fixed you're good for 12's. Better than my 16.xx's lol

It was more like sleep walking....

I wanted the car to go, but the clutch would not let it.... until about 100' out...

My car may be done for the season....

How much HP (or abuse) can a stock clutch take? I know a few people have gone 11's on them..

I may just replace stock for now (Autozone, Limited Lifetime Warranty) and see what is up with my trans... I would like to be able to run another pass this year with a clutch, but don't want to ruin the trans (right now)... Cheaper to repair than replace!

And based on the calcutor that 85_Capri_4v mentions, I am making around 253 to the wheels..... I WANT MORE! I WILL HAVE MORE!!!

GIVE ME POWER OR GIVE ME DEATH....

(Please, shoot me now!)

In everyone's experience, does the .1 in the 60' equal (or almost equal) .2 in the top end?

Trying to set a reasonable goal for myself for the 22nd. With a clutch, I should be able to achieve a much better 60', in turn, reducing my ET.

Any projections?

I am hoping for high 13's through the day.
And nothing breaking unless I force it too!

I dunno man, I can't see 12s if you trapped 99 mph. Granted your clutch is smoked, but I've only lost maybe 2-3 mph from a bad clutch. I could see mid 13s, especially with a better 60'. What's done to your car?

Holley 650 DP
Perf. RPM Intake
Comp Cam (HR270 I think)
E7 Heads (3 angle valve grind, removed emissions hump)
Mac Shorties
O/R H
Flowmaster 2 Chamber
Stock 7.5 with 2.73 gears.
5 speed car.
Removed Emissions stuff
Stock CRAPPY Suspension

Next year (fingers crossed), I will have a little bit more done to it.

Well, I could see 12s with a serious gear (4.10) and some slicks. A buddy of mine had an '85 GT with most of the stuff you listed, running mid-high 12s consistently, only difference being he had D00E heads, long tubes and 4.10s. Good luck, I bet the gears will help a TON

*Gazing into the future*
I see 4.10 gears going into an 8.8, possible some drag suspension, and weight reduction.... Also see Hoosier Quick Time Pros (26 X 9.5)..

I also see the motor being freshened up and maybe a little porting on the E7 Heads until I redo the motor.....
*Back to reality*

Winter will be fun!

I am planning to run the car next Friday. I fixed the clutch and it grabs like an addict for the crack pipe.

Any predictions on what it will run?

*gazes into the future * i see low 12s only if you get a better 60' time so make sure to do that *back to real life* low 12s is possible but dont do to many runs the stock clutch dont hold much a little over stock HP

I haven't changed gears yet.... The only real change is the clutch, so I am stuck with the 2.73's....

Anyone think I can break into the 13's (like MJ?)

could happen :D

High 13's are realistic if you can lay down some 2.1 60' times
