Will a 275 R 15 tire work on a 89 LX with a 5 inch backspacing? And if so what tire height works with that. thanks

Stevebob,

when working with tiresizes you've got a series of 3 numbers on there...

let's take 275/50r15's for example.

275 would be the section width in milimeters (how wide the tire is)

50 would be the percentage of the first number used to calculate the tires size from the edge of the rim to the top of the tread also called the sidewall hight or usually called the "Aspect ratio" (this case it'd be 137.5 milimeters)

the R just means it's a radial tire, there are other letters which can go there, but I wouldn't put anything less then a radial tire on anything.

the last number is your rimsize, the 15 would be 15" rims.

so I guess the question I've got is - what exact tire do you want to run, because it looks like you missed a couple numbers in there ...

275/50/15 will fit a ten hole. If you got quads you will need to flip em or remove em. Expect alittle rubbin also.

275mm (10.8") tires on 7" wheels is just ridiculous looking. Not to mention unsafe and most likely ill handling when driving spiritedly.

Well first I planed on putting the tires on a 8 1/2 " rim. Second i will remove the quad shocks. Third i know i was missing the aspect ratio number because that is the number I was asking about. So do you guys think a 275/50/15 will work with an 8 1/2'' rim with 5 inches of backspacing?
