I finally got a chance to go up and see how the car really turned out. In all I am pleased.
Good points....the paint shines like glass. This car is VERY DIRTY but you wouldn't know it from the pictures. The ground effects and wheels turned out better than I had ever hoped for. The car starts up right away. Two pumps of the gas and a turn of the key. I looked over the hood again and I swear I can't see the old dent I anymore.
The trim still bugs me. Some pieces are dented. Why he never asked me to get better stuff is beyond me. The guy didn't apply the NOS door mouldings very well and they have some buckling...not sure what to do about that. The rear center area was SUPPOSED to be painted dark charcoal around the tailights...he missed that.
Well, on to the pics:

Looks great! Definately needs some different springs though, it looks you've got air shocks on that thing

Heheh. You guys noticed that huh?
Yeah, obviously the ascMcLaren springs are long gone. Time to locate a new set.
It wasn't so noticeable with the other tires, but when I got the correct set of low profile tires, it does look like a 4x4.

the ASC looks brilliant. yeah, the way its sitting right now does look alittle funny, but otherwise its wonderfully done. oh BTW, is it me or does the quarter windows look a bit diofferent? is this supposed to be an aero aid, either way it looks awesome

Ayep. Its a blackout treatment asc did for the quarter windows.
I'm actually a little surprised more people haven't tried it on other Mustangs or Capris.

Looks great! The 4x4 look will go by the wayside soon enough. ;) Remember when mine did that? Anyway, once you get it down, take some pic's of it and send them to Skye. I believe that we could use a few more wallpapers! ;)

I for one liked your car much better before you lowered it. Even though people called it a 4x4, the car looked more aggressive (to me) up high with those large tires and wheels.
In this case, the lower profile and smaller wheels on the asc look silly.

Nice...But lower that biatch!!!

Yeah, we swapped out the rear springs. Now she sits evenly all around and is not nearly so high.
It may be my imagination but lowering the back (2+") also affected the front slightly. I measured and now everything EXACTLY the same distance between the opening and the tire.
I'll get some new pictures and see what you all think.

Yeah...it's been a while but here are some in my garage after the spring swap.
Not much to see really:

I know what you guys are going to say....that it still sits up like a 4x4. I really think its the camera angle and the wheel wells aren't painted. It doesn't look that way at all when your standing next to it. Also remember these are small 15" wheels with VERY low profile tires 225/60...not the normal 225/65s
The rear springs were swapped for correct asc ones and it dropped the back a good 1.5 to 2 inches. The fronts we didn't switch as the springs looked the same as the replacements and the car sits the same front to back. Side to side (LH vs RH) measurments are .25" off with the left being higher.....so I guess when I sit in it, it should all level out perfectly :D

man... that is one VERY noticacle improvement on the car's stance. though i must admit, the tires seem to make the wheels ill-fitting. there is still alot of space between the tire and the fender. perhaps you shout get the 65 series tires to make the tires alittle fuller

The tire size was specifically chosen by ascMcLaren. So they will remain. What will happen is when I go and redo the suspension, the wheel wells will get painted black or dark blue or whatever is correct.
EDIT: I'm sorry, the asc used P225x50 tires (which are on there now)....the normal one's used by Ford were 225/60's

As soon as I get a leak in the carb fixed and put on the smog equipment for a visual inspection, it could go down to get registered.
Maybe by New Years...

225/50s on 15s?
That's what I did on the ten-holes when I first got this GT
There's more of a gap but it's like a poor man's gear swap heh heh

Yes, my car USED to have the 225/60's. The speedo never registered correctly. I never knew why until I found out that asc changed the tires AND the speedo gear.
I like how asc lowered their cars this way. By putting on the lower profile tires and then putting in lowering springs, the gap remains about the same all away arounf the tire. I don't really like when the gap disappears at the top of the tire which happens when most people lower their cars.

does that car have power door locks? just curious
negusm
01-17-2005, 07:05 PM
Nope. Manual door locks and power windows.
My car is a fairly early 85 asc Coupe and appears to have been built to 100% asc specs. A very few later 85 asc cars had some other options like cruise, ttops/sunroof or power locks. 86 coupes could be ordered (by the customer/dealer) in a variety of configurations while the 85s were all supposed to be spec cars and not ordered by dealers.
A "normal" 85 spec car had power windows, manual locks, 5 speed tranny, no ttops or sunroof, remote fuel release, and no remote hatch release.

-Mikw yes i think sandy calls them rapid spec the very first asc coupe i had had the remote hatch and power locks and sandy told my the locks must have been added but build sheet told a diffrent story just thought your asc might have been mine since the wheels were so orange i had those redone on mine and they looked real bright like yours. have never seen a 85 with the t bar roof or sunroof i would love to find a 86 vert with a v6 wonder how many of those are around

My wheels were redone too. They are god awful sweet.
I have a pic of Peter Shears 85 which has a sunroof....its barely noticeable in the picture. Check out this carshow pic. Note the girl's feet in the sunroof and the 1985 banner in the back...and the ascMcLaren decal on the hood which was deleted in 1986:

Not too many v6ers around. I think one guy found his way to the asc forums....Sandy could tell you how many he's tracked down (very very VERY few). The cars were slated for WOMEN who didn't want the nasty V8 but would like a V6 vert. However, out of all the cars Sandy has located, 100% were owned by MEN.

The gentleman that I bought my 86 Coupe from had an 85 Coupe with a sunroof. I recall him telling me how Sandy had an interesting story about it.
I got to see one of the verts with a V6 down in Florida, pretty interesting ride. I had seen a V6 Capri before, but not in years, so I did a double take for sure!
