Ok, here is the deal. I have a 1987 Mitsubishi Montero. The carb is shot. Up here in canada with setup they want near 1000USD for installation of a new one... I am NOT paying that price for this 1/2 dead SUV. What I was hoping for was some feedback on what is required for me to put a 2bbl mustang carb on it. I can have an adapter machined for much less then 1000USD and add the new ford carb on it... but I am curious to know what the plates look like and what they should have etc... since I have not seen to many pictures of them.

Thanks in advance... I want to keep my SUV going cause I dont want to drive the stang in the winter!

it's about $300-$400 american over here. What is that in canadian....do you want me to buy one for you and ship it :)

that's still expensive as hell for a carb.

or you can go to autozone.com, find your carb based on model, and see what it costs. If you find it cheap, send me the money, I'll buy it and send it back, no mark up of course

After doing calculations and figuring conversion costs, shipping and of course customs, it would be only about 50$ savings if that. If I can get a conversion plate made for around 100$ even 200$. The 2bbl carb is still only 240$ and that would be about 50% cheaper then the carb built for the montero.

I know its been a while but since I really wanted to get my Ford project on the way again I need to get my mitsubishi going. I have found what I think is the best alternative for my problem and will be going with the 38/38 Weber carb conversion kit.

I dont know if ever anyone will ever need the same thing but I have been looking for a while now and finally come accross this at http://www.montero-raider.com and it even has a nice turbo setup for my SUV... nice.

Define "shot". Unless the throttle shaft bores have worn out so badly that they cause a vacuum leak, you should be able to just overhaul the carb yourself for less than $100 CDN.
