OMG my first "Show Me" thread.
If you got a stereo in your car still...post them...unfortunately mine is gone currently so no pic for me :(

This is the stereo in my '89:
http://home.comcast.net/~throg/stereo.JPG
That MTX 8000 sub pounds, especially with the matched amp. :evl: Good thing, too, cuz my primary stereo (Mac shorties, Bassani X, 2 chamber Flows) puts out a lot of its own bass! The extra space on the amp board is for a CD changer when I get around to it. I've got Boston Acoustic separates in the door and dash positions, and some relatively cheezy Pioneer units in the back seat spots. Lot of popping ("clipping"? at high volume :x :(
Funny problem I have w/it: on hot days, the engine heat comes up thru the tranny tunnel and cooks the head unit, which then starts having weird volume fluctuations... :?
I don't know how you could get a decent stereo into a four-eye. No good place to put the head unit w/o cutting, and no good place at all for speakers.
This is what happens when a jackazz puts a stereo in a pristine '85 interior:

  :stupid:  I'd pay $200 to replace those, if mint ones could be found...

Didnt have to cut the dash to install it either, only required some slight fileing of the hole to get the sleeve to slide in.
I was playing with some diffrent modes on my camera to capture what it looks like in the dark, but nothing came out too good. you can look at them in http://futurex.mytinytown.com/capri/stereo/ if your really bored. Most of them went blury becuase of camra shake when it combined the flash and metered shots :(
Oh yeah, it was playing "Distant Early Warning" by RUSH and scrolling that title when i took the shot, which is why it says arning on the display,

I've got the original AM/FM Stereo in my dash. It still works great, with all four original speakers producing sounds. But....It sounds like crap compared to today's modern speakers/head units.

Hissing - tell me that pic w/wires hanging out all over is not what the inside of your car usually looks like! :omg:

Ha Ha! Nope. That picture was taken last October, when my brother and I were putting the entire interior back together, after the subframe connectors were welded in. Here's what it's looked like since. If you look closely, you'll notice that I've removed that LED display underneath the stereo and replaced it with Autogage's triple quage display (my brother made a custom plate for them so that they fit in there beautifully.)

Is that a factory shifter boot Hissing Cobra?

Yep. ;) I wanted my entire car to look as factory as possible. On the interior, I only wanted to change the steering wheel and add the aftermarket guages. That meant using the original shifter boot, although I upgraded the 4-speed knob to a later model 5-speed knob.
Unless you looked under the car, you'd never know that I have a Tremec 3550, Pro 5.0 shifter, and Hurst shifter stick (I didn't like the shortness of the Pro 5.0 stick.)
