svo modification questions

hey guys, I was looking at buying an 84 svo. Is it possible to advance the headlight lenses forward like the 85.5 and 86 models. I didnt know if there was some kind of spacer kit or something like that. Any info would be much appreciated. Also I would like to put the dual exhaust out the back like the 86 models. I think I read somewhere that there was an external fuel pump that had to be moved. I didnt know if anyone had any info or had done that modification.

I think the assemblies are different or the single bucket. But I'm not real sure.

Yes... you can install 85.5 and 86 Headlights into the 84-85 header Panel... just need to modify the harness

Just run one three inch exhaust form the turbo back.

84 and early 85 had two fuel pumps. A low pressure "helper" pump in the tank and a high pressure pump under the car. 85 1/2 and 86 had one single pump in the tank like a 5.0.

Not sure if you need to relocate the pump or not. Most people who do the conversion run a fuel filter in the place of the externall pump.

and yes you can convert to the newer style headlights. 5.0 resto has repo headlights as well as SVPU.

to do the dual exhaust, you will have to remove the external fuel pump and get an intank pump like the 5.0 as Kyle said. Then you have to cut the ground wire to the intank pump on the 84, 85 model SVO cars as they only use a 8 volt ground. I had to do this on my 84 recently. I installed the 86 fuel pump and it ran fine until I hit 15+boost and it pinged, coughed sputtered and so on. There is a diode in the wire that you cannot see. It is a simple swap on the exhaust and fuel pump...

For the headlights, call Paul at SVPU. I think he has them in stock.

Talk about resurecting a thread from the dead. I bought Matt"s 84 gt turbo. I will be installing a newer tank and walbro pump soon though, so Im glad he posted up

This car I got from Matt is a real sh--tbox, the body has been beaten very badly and fixed poorly. I just couldnt stand to see it get crushed though. Got it cheap and figured I would use it for a daily driver, with gas being expensive as it is. I think I will get it "decent" someday, but it will never be a great car :( :( :( , just too much prev damage.

Im going to see if the DMV will let me get a license plate "SHT BOX".
