View Full Version : tires on 85
I gave a stock 85 GT with the original rims, alloy type with the holes. Original tires were Goodyear Gatorbacks p225/60/15. My question is although the tires look good, what tire will fit on the original rims and give my car a little wider stance, beefier tires that will not rub the fender wells and still fit..Thanks..Paul

My 85 had 235s on it when I bought it. Only rubbed a little at full travel. You can go wider in the rear.

The problem iwith going wider is the contact patch due to the 7" width of the rim. 245 is as high as I would go.

Make sure your suspension is up to snuff. I put 235s on the front of my car and they rubbed the inner wheel well....but the stock 195s also rubbed...shows you how bad they are.
235s give it a slightly "tougher" look though. Thats whats on my rear wheels.

I have 235/60R14s and they look quite aggressive. I don't notice any rub at all
