lips have been rolled. i need a taller tire for speedo issues, the car is loaded w/a couple hundred lbs of stuff from time to time. maybe 255/60 would be better, it is only 27" though...

255/60 will better, but is probably a bit wide for the 7" rims.
Handling will suffer due to excessive side roll, and you may experience more wear in the middle of the tire.
All that being said... I've seen it done with 265/50s with no major fitment rubbing-wise.
It can be done.. I just wouldn't recommend it.

All that said, and it will also look like crap. Just look at my front tires in my album. I had to buy tires fast and had to go with 205/50s cause of rubbing issues with the cut springs the guy had before it. It was either those tires or nothing cause i couldn't buy two. But to get back to the case, they look like crap with excessive roll and not enough.

My problem is the limited number of sizes for 15's in a DR.
235 or 275 only...
BFG has the new "sport compact" DR that has a 255/50 (I think), but they won't come back to me about what is different than their standard DR and how they would react with a RWD higher HP motor...

I run BFG DRs in 235-60-15. I found no advantage to running a larger, poorly fitting tire (275), and the 235s have not let me down. Nothing like not having been to the track in about a year and running a 1.8 60' the first run out. 8)
Smallest wheel I would put a 275 on would be an 8".

I'd have to find the slips, but I granny shifted to 12.94 @109.something. Once I have the Lincoln going again, I'll happily destroy my T5 for some deeper twelves as the car is certainly capable of it with that MPH. Just need to tune the driver. :/
With practice, good 1.7 60s should be within reach. And then if I actually do something to the rear suspension...
My next set of DRs will be the new Mickey Thompson's.

id run the 275s if it were in a nitto dr...those usually run a little smaller than regular tires and would work for a 7" rim...id spring for some 8" rims though

I run 255/60/R15 on stock 7" wheels, 255 is realy the biggest you should go on a 7" wheel.

taking all that into consideration, it is not a corner carver, is not lowered, i would only run them on the rear & i want a 28ish tall tire. i guess i could go w/ something narrower & 70 series....

Your comparing apples and oranges here. Yes, a 205/50 will look like ass, its not wide enough and way too short. A 255/60 on the other hand is plenty tall and a little wider than stock so it looks a little beefier than stock. I have run both 255's and 275's on a 7" wheel. The 255 is the best because it wont rub at all. The 275 will fit but you will have to roll the lip and it can still rub from time to time. I have never found a 255/60 on a 7" wheel to have excessive rollover or wear in the center. I think it is the perfect size for a rear tire. I wouldnt run it on the front though, it would be too tall and look kinda goofy.
