My magazine came and I scanned it.
I will leave the pics up for a little while and then delete them.
If someone could host them if interest is there, that would be cool!

Awesome! I also have that same magazine. It's a nice read. One thing that I'd like to say (don't anyone kill me!,) is that I've always loved the Iroc-Z's too. When they came out, I really liked the Yellow (I can't get away from that color  ,) and White ones.

However, after riding in one, I couldn't believe the difference in quality, when comparing it to the Mustang. My uncle had one of those cars (actually a Z-28,) and everything broke on it within the first couple of years. It had lots of electrical problems and other crazy gremlins. I also didn't like the front floor on the passenger side. It felt like the seat was mounted to the floor without any legs. Oh well, I still think that they're one of the sexiest designs ever for a Camaro.

Thats cool. Its cool to look at the pics from back then. I got a magazine, can;t remember which one, from 1981 about the 82 GT, will eventually get the pages scanned, but the mags back home still...

I like how they say the models will carry through to 1989 when they will be replaced by FWD models!! (The Probe and the Barretta) If only they knew today we'd be driving around in 400HP Cobras

I know! I have a co-worker who owns a Probe, and he thinks it's the most badass car. I actually like them, but when I told him that they were supposed to replace the Mustang, he looked at me dead seriously and stated, "Why didn't they? The Rustangs are old and decrepit. The Probe is a much better design." I just kept my cool, because I don't like to make people feel awkward. Wait until I give him a ride in my Mustang. ;)

I remember reading that article when it was hot off the press :D . Glory days for the four-eyes. Fact of the matter was, though, the Camaro came back to match the Stang within a couple years, and was actually slapping it around for most of the Nineties (say "fat tires and LT1") while Ford refused to pump up the 5.0, then replaced it with the weak-kneed modular. Only reason Mustangs stayed afloat was dedicated (and patient) followers who kept the faith.

 Car mags of the early Eighties (Hot Rod & Car Craft included) constantly said: "Get over the RWD V8s, boys: their days are numbered. Learn to love FWD four-bangers - it's the way things are gonna be in a few years." Ah, humanity, so fallible!

I also didn't like the front floor on the passenger side. It felt like the seat was mounted to the floor without any legs.

That's because the floorpan on the passenger side has a raised area where the catalytic convertor is installed. You're right that riding in one does give the sensation that the seat is mounted to the floor with no space for tracks under it. The designer probably figured the hoochie mama riding in the passenger seat would be bent across the center console anyway and would never put her feet on the floorboard....

Heh, I owned a nearly fully loaded (no leather) 96 Probe GT with 5 speed. A very fun car to drive...its reall attraction was the independent suspension. Cornering was alot more fun than the ascMcLaren but taking off was the pits (164hp, fwd). All Ford had to do was offer a turbo in that car and it would have been great in all respects.

However, after riding in one, I couldn't believe the difference in quality, when comparing it to the Mustang. .

When I bought my Cop Mustang I flew in to pick it up and the seller met me at the airport with his Cop Camaro. My '89 Mustang was a fully marked Oregon State Police and his '92 Camaro was an FBI car. Considering my car was 3 years older and had twice the mileage I couldn't believe what a POS the Camaro was, it rattled and banged over bumps, rode like crap, wandered all over the road and the interior was falling apart. My Mustang is just the opposite, tight and rattle free and goes down the road nice and straight with all of the original parts. :D

Question, are the Mustangs headlight buckets silver?

Yep... sure are.

The article does state that the cars they tested were pre-productions... warmed over 84's or 85's.

I remember that article. I read it while I was looking for my '86.
Good stuff!
