Hi i was just looking at putting a new T-5 from a 90 GT in my 84GT and was wondering if you think every thing will bolt up and work fine together . i noticed that the new trannys have a wire comming out of the top of them and i wonder what that is for and if i have to have that . please help if anyone can. i have also included a pic of the tranny in my album if you would like to see what i'm a talking about . thanks everyone :?:

so the 84gt was originally a t-5... then yep bolt right in...
You should also upgrade to a 10 1/2 clutch and flywheel while your in their..
You need clutch for 86-93, flywheel 86-93, and 87-93 bolts..they whent from standard to metric bolts..
And that spare plug is for the cruise/speed signal... If i remember correctly..

Wires coming out the top is a neutral switch. The speed sensor goes into where the speedo cable goes. Sensor on the left side middle is the back up lights.

Actually, there is no neutral switch on the T-5. That switch on the top is the overdrive switch to tell the EEC that you're in 5th gear. That's why the '83-'85 T-5 doesn't have it but the '86-up does. Once the computer sees that switch close, it uses a more fuel efficient strategy for economy/emissions because it assumes you're cruising. For swapping into a carb car, just leave it disconnected.
