well, got the stang back from the top shop. Top looks great!!! (before and after pics to come some time this week)
However, now I have a problem with the rear again.
I'm going to take it apart soon to figure it out, but figured I would ask you guys first to see what you think.
Remember, I just put in a used tbird turbocoupe 3.73 rear, kept the drum brakes, installed pro3i lower control arms, cobra uppers, 99+ gt shocks, and an aluminum driveshaft.
when I drive, I hear this scrape scrape scrape scrape that seems to go with the revolutions of the rear wheel/axle, coming from the rear drivers side.
Additionally, when I shift into any gear, I get a clanking coming from somewhere back there that sounds like a driveshaft with bad ujoints would, but this is a new frpp alum driveshaft.
Any opinions/?? Who thinks it is just another classic case of rear wheel bearings??? What else could it be?? I am not a rear end expert (yet) btw, it isn't the brakes making the metal to metal scraping sound, and I am certain of that.

Bent backing plate, or tire rubbing fender?

Bent backing plate, or tire rubbing fender?
very interesting, I don't think so though.
I forgot the interesting point, which may be a dead giveaway. If I am cruising, and hear the noise, I can turn the wheel slightly to the left or so, which makes the noise go away.
Purhaps this puts some pressure on something in the rear??

Sounds to me like the driveshaft may be rubbing on the exhaust. The driveshaft is a lot larger in diameter than the stock one.
Check it out.
Also there is always a little slack in the driveline. The gears will just make it more noticeable.

Are the brakes grabby or pulsate? Do the wheels wobble when driven on jackstands. That may be a bad axle.
Check the traction lock's condition. It may be the source of the noise and req rebuilding.

You sure it is coming from the back and not the front ? Sounds like bad brake pads.

Check to make sure you dont have a loose brake spring or that the adjuster stop has not gotten out of alignment or came loose and is scraping the drum or pad just a thought .

I have to agree with the exhaust rubbin' the driveshaft.
It used to happen in my Chevelle before when it had some crappilyy routed glass-packs. I thought it was the rear too, till I noticed the markings on the d-s from the rubbing.
Hope that helps.

That's exactly what happen to me this summer , took a hell of a long time to get it since I was only pulling the drum on the side that wasn<t the problem . Sometimes we think it's comming from one side and in fact , it comes from the other one.
Did you put some new bearing when you did the swap ?? Maybe it's just like you said , a freeking bad bearing !!!
Keep us posted !!

Alright, perhaps I am just a doomsday perceiver, or perhaps I got lucky...I found the problem, and it fell into my lap literally the second I pulled the drum off.

I fixed the problem, then almost lowered the car, and decided, wait, so I crawled back under, and sure enough, every driveshaft bolt was finger tight....Locktight guys!!!! So I got under their re aligned my alum driveshaft green dot to green dot on the flange, locktited her, and took it for a test drive, no noise, no clunk!!!!
Thanks a million for all your help, it only took me a leisurly hour, and it was fun too> I am driving this baby to work tomorrow, gonna get it washed, and post pics soon of my new top.
