Any one use an Air Gap intake with a 625cfm Road Demon carb?

my car is a 306 with e7 heads mild cam, long tubes, offroad H and Dynomax catback.

want to update the intake and carb, hoping to get away from using a Holley.

Why do you want to get away from using a Holley? You know that a Barry Grant is basically a Holley design, modified for more performance?

I've played with two and they are NOT designed for pleasent street manners or economy. Fantastic at wide open throttle but thats about it.

I'm not concerned with milage, just performance. So if the demon makes more power than that's what I'm looking for.

Which one's did you use, and with what kinda combo's. might of used the wrong carb?

I used a 625 Road Demon. I dropped from a 14.6 in the quarter mile to a 14.2 using the Demov vs the stock Holley 4180 on my 85.

I've never used a BG. But I have used just about every Holley. The only one I've ever had problems getting tuned right for regular street driving was the crapy 600cfm vacum secondary, model number 1850. That one is a pain, but all others are great. I am currently using the HP model, 750 CFM, which is very similar to a BG. It comes with a smoothed air horn and lot's of other modifications, direct from Holley. And it's much cheaper... You can find them on E-bay for $200 or $300. I like using Holley, mainly because they're a much bigger comapany and parts are easier to get. You can go down to a local parts strore and find stuff for holleys. Just my two cents. As far as your combo, any carb of 600 or 625 CFM is about right. I wouldn't go much bigger. Just my $.02...

Thanks guys

I know Holley has been around forever, yet the BG 650 Speed demon out performs the Holley 750.

I'm gonna have to do some more research.

anyone else that has info on the Barry Grant Speed Demon chime on in!

Sounds like you are sold on BG, so I won't try to change your mind on that. But, I'm not sure why you say a 650 BG outperforms a Holley 750? Which BG and Holley are you comparing? If you are saying a Road Demon 650 outperforms my HP 750, I definitely disagree with that. Plus, do you realize that your CFM is really only determined by Cubic Inches (with given known variables, like: less than 7,000 RPM and normal VE of say 85%) So, a 650 isn't even really comparable to a 750 since thay are designed to be used on two different engines (300 Vs 400ci), again given variables for an engine other than a $30,000 race motor.

Sorry if I opened a can of worms. Just want to make sure we all have a good idea on how to pick a good carb for our engines...

No problem, just haven't had to much luck with the Holleys lately.

Thanks

bg carbs and holleys are bench flowed differently the holley is done with air and the bg is done with a liquid so a 650 bg carb actually flows more like a 750 holley

Ive had both a 650 Holley Double Pumper and a 650 Speed Demon. Both were brand new and the BG was 5 times better than the Holley in driveability and performance. I also got the 650 Speed Demon and an 850 for 250 bucks brand new in the box still in the plastic, so I couldnt pass that deal up.

I agree with what is being said about the Holley Double Pumpers. They're not comparable to a BG. A BG is guarateed to be better than a standard DP, since it is a race modified version of the same design. But, I am talking about the Holley HP. Not everyone is familiar with the HP. It is also a race modified version, like the BG, but made by Holley.

I got the 650 Speed Demon and the Air Gap intake. The carb is beautiful and the intake is also sweet!. I installed the intake last night and I took some pics of the project. :D

Keep us posted on how well you like that BG. I have had 3 Holleys on my 85 and I have had problems with every one of them. I have gotten to where I hate looking at that Holley.

pics are on the Album page!!

BG carb is awesome. Follow initial start up procedure and the car fire right up. All I did is adjust the idle and off I went for one of the best Sunday rides!! :D :D :D

It pulls so hard now that I may need to get some drag radials.

woo-hoo!

I very pleased with the quality and easy use of this carb and intake combo. I would guess that the car pickup somewhere between 30-40hp and a ton of tq.

This is good news!
I've been watching this thread. I bought the same set up for the motor I'm building. Sounds like I made the right choice, which is a nice change of pace. :D

I changed heads ,put E7's on, with that installed! You have to work around it, but it's nice to be able to lean on it when your working!
