Hey everybody,
Im new to this board nice to see a good site dedicated to the four eyed stangs/capris.
I just picked up a pretty uncommon stang and wanted to see if anybody has one that is similar. Seems that production numbers are still unavailable so i'll stay away from that topic.
The car is a 83 notch with 5.0 and a five gear. I picked the car up two days ago from a mechanic who did some work on the car. When the owner got the bill for the repairs he decided to give the car to the mechanic who in turn sold it to me.
I have never seen a car with so many deletes although I know they were produced. Here are a few of the details:
83 GL sedan, 5.0 five speed,
bright red exterior with black vinyl interior
TRX suspension and wheels
shoulder belt delete
A/C delete
horn delete
passenger mirror delete
18,650 original miles, unverified, but highly likely.
Could this car have been scheduled to be turned into a convertable? The lap belts are a little odd.
Do any of you have or have you seen a car like this one? I have had about 15 late models and most of them were notches. I personally have never seen another in this trim or in this state of clenliness. I will try to get a digital camera to post some pix.

Not a cop car. But has similar eqipment. I have the original owners warranty ownercard and manual. I also found some NOS trim and all the NOS exterior emblems in the trunk. Some wierd grommets and washers too.

wow thats cherry, ive NEVER heard of shoulder belt delete, i would think that since shoulder belts were federal required that that would not be an option. maybe the car was made to be switched to convertible by automobil mechanicca, or mclaren, or maybe some other unknown company ordered it to be made into a race car. thats what i would figure. but who knows that sounds like an AWESOME car though, you have to get some pics up and if ya dont mind how much you pay? and if it had repair work done and only had 16xxx miles, why would the bill be so high that he had to give it away? sounds weird to me.

I paid 1,200 bucks for the car. i saw the car sitting at the smog referee shop here in town. I called a friend to go check it out, but when he was pulling up the car was pulling away from the shop. My friend chased him down and got a phone number to the shop.
I know the car had some smog issues because it has a brand new EGR valve and reciepts from a failed smog test. The car also had a bad fuel pump, my guess is the car sat around in a garage or carport for years without moving. Things tend to start getting sticky if they go unused and stored outside. The Michelin TRX tires are still with good tread but they are cracking from dry rot. The guy I got it from claimed the back seat had never been sat in! This is truly the most solid mustang I have ever driven in. No rattles or squeaks, its amazing.
Do you guys know how to find out if the car really has only 18k through the DMV or something? How bout through insurance records?

what about that carfax thing online?? it might tell you original milage. hmm i dont know what would be a good wear indicator....i would figure that a car with 18xxx would just be awesome and PERFECT if it is then i would assume yea original.

Carfax will tell you when the car was registered (sometimes) and if the mileage lines up with the registrations.
If it was a one owner car it wouldn't show much. If it was registered recently by a new owner or the owner before last, it may show something.

Sorry guys, I haven't got any digital pix yet. I will try to get some tomorrow. I think i'm gonna check with the DMV first and do a registration check. That should show the mileage when it was sold.
Isnt there a way to date a tire by a code or something on the sidewall? I thought they were date coded somehow? Original tires would be a good sign.

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/TireSafety/ridesonit/brochure.html#dotcode
U.S. DOT Tire Identification Number
This begins with the letters "DOT" and indicates that the tire meets all federal standards. The next two numbers or letters are the plant code where it was manufactured, and the last four numbers represent the week and year the tire was built. For example, the numbers 3197 means the 31st week of 1997. The other numbers are marketing codes used at the manufacturer's discretion. This information is used to contact consumers if a tire defect requires a recall.

Heres what I found on the tires: 93h E2 0177570
I didnt find a DOT number anywhere. I checked all four of 'em too. All the other codes were pretty obvious (size, speed rating, tire construction etc..) except for the one listed above.
I know the Ford code for 1982 is E2, and that code is listed on all four of the tires.
Looks like this was the the most out of federally mandated specification car ever produced by Ford. No shoulder harnesses, no horn, no DOT number. Too bad they installed the required smog equipment.
Can somebody that has the TRX wheel and tire package check thier codes to cross reference mine. Thanks for all your help.

Whats automobil mechanicca? Is that a tuner shop or something?

Automobili Intermeccanica was the company that modified '80-'82 Mustang coupes into convertibles called the Mustang Cabrio. I doubt they would have touched your car as Ford started producing factory built verts in '83.
The car may have been setup to be a show car or as a floor model that when it was no longer needed got an engine and the bare neccesities to make it driveable.

FoMoCo didn't build convertibles in-house until '94. From '83 through '93, Cars and Concepts did the conversions (from notchback).

The horn is on the turn indicator lever. I never knew they came that way. No wonder I couldn't find it.

My 82GT has regular sholder and lap belts in front. Yes, all the older stangs you PUSHED the directional signal into the stearing collom to activate the horn. Why would they do that? Anyway, who cares cause im use to it.

I agree I can't hardly believe Horn or shoulder belt delete. My 83GT has the horn on the turn signal. Push the turn signal in toward the column and the horn might sound. Cars will not even pass inspection in the state of Texas with out a horn since the 60's. I suspect in the rest of the country also. Shoulder belts also I'm pretty sure became mandatory at some point.
Could be, but this is one I'd have to see to believe.

Three-point lap-shoulder belts became a federal requirement in 1973.
Rear lap belts were required in 1990 (all manufacturers produced them in December 1989). GM started it in 1986.

I tried to take a pic of them but it didn't come out very good.
The pic was way too dark.
I will try it again and post them up.
There is only a plug where the bolt goes for the shoulder part.
And only has lap belts!

well the first thing that jumps out at me is the car looks cherry i would bet the mileage is original. 1st ! DONT modify anything, an 83 coupe TRX package no A/C base model with black interior LOW mileage! That in it self is rare. Another thing is the incorrect taillights. The ones you have with the stripes are SVO (84-86) and 1993 Cobra specific. Maybe they were replaced for some reason. Also pull those wheels and tires of and put anything else on. The TRX tires are outrageously expensive. Just store them (let the air out before you do) If you can take them off the rim
because the moisture will rot them from the inside out. The pass. mirror delete is also not a delete at all. My 79' came like that and its just because whoever ordered it didn't order the "sport" or higher package. The belts may have been replaced with 60'sstyle lap belts?? thats just an idea probably wrong though look at the buckle and see if it matches the rear seat buckle. that would tell you something.

Yea I need to find the tail lights. The right one was broke from a bike rack? So the svo lights were on a shelf and found there way on the car.
Thanks for info. I am getting the driver seat redone Monday and the inside will be cherry.
