Just read an article in MM&FF about this website and was happy to learn that there is a forum for 79-86 mustangs. I own an 86 gt which is mostly stock and have had a question about the front bumper/air dam for some time now. my question is wether or not a 79-86 lx bumper/air dam will fit my gt. So far I havn't seen any lx's with cutouts for the fog lights and was wary of just trying to throw on the bumper/air dam if it doesn't fit. Sorry if this topic has already been covered, but any help on if it will fit or even where I can find a new gt bumper/air dam would be helpful. Thanks. :D

Don't worry about asking questions that might already have been asked. Everyone has to start somewhere.
The only difference between the two (provided they're 85-86 style) would be the foglight holes as you'd suspected. Remove your foglights (perhaps the bar as well, not sure) and you're good to go. Shouldn't be any other issues.
The 79-82 bumper covers would give you issues due to the hood being different and having removable headlight buckets.
Thanks for joining the forums!

An 85' or 86' LX nose will fit with no problems. You will either need to remove your fog lights or make a template of the original fog light locations and cut out the opennings on the new nose. 79' thru 84' LX noses do not have the side flares so they will have a fitment problem.

did the 84 GT front bumper cover come with driving light holes? If anyone has a pic of a stock 84 GT please post

Early '84 GTs had no foglamp holes. The cover was changed mid-year and the lights were reintroduced to the '84 GT. The '83 GT and early '84 GT were the only GT models without foglamps.
Same goes for rear-facing hood scoop and three-piece hatchback 'spoiler'. The scoop disappeared in early '84 and the 'spoiler' was changed in mid-'84 to the wide one-piece unit, a la '85 GT/LX.

Here is a pic of my Motorsport chin spoiler (air dam). Kinda gives the look of the mid model 84 GT bumper.
