Ford VIP convertibles: 15
I would imagine your best bet for finding more info on them would be the GT350 Registry Site.

Would you have a link to that site? TIA

Thanks. I'm adding your car right now. Though I have pretty much given up on my site... No time, no interest really. I don't have the time to do research anymore, or the money to buy any more books.

Thanks, I like the pics, you choose.
Maybe someday you'll find a better place to host your site.
Do you think they'd like to see the pics here? If so, go ahead and post them.
Do you know where the buck plate is on a stang?

The Body Tag is attached to the radiator core support, behind the headlights.

What he said.
Mines in a lil baggy with lots of other car goodies. I'm not sure if Skyes got around to updating the pictures for this site. And one day I will move my site to a different host, but even then, I don't have time or money.
If you'd like me to post the pics of your car in the General BS setion I could, but I'd have to host them at my image hosting site, cause I can't post directly off your page or mine.

Thanks for the info!! My door tag is barely legible, i want to try and see what was on my car when it was built. Maybe I got lucky and have a VIP convertible.
If people want to see them, I set my site as my homepage. Be easier than taking some of your server space. Thanks for the offer.

I used WD-40 and a shop rag to clean up the VC label on my '86. It looked faded with paint overspray but it was just dirty.

OK thanks, I'll try that.
I did post a link to my site in the pic forum.

Are you asking about the "VIP Convertible" because you think your '84 LX convertible is one (which it isn't) or you own a GT350 20th Anniversary convertible and hoping it might be one?

Wanting to be sure it's not either before I start modding it.
Being an anniversary year, I just want to be sure.
Thanks

If it's an '84 LX, it's neither.
Of the 141,480 Mustangs produced during the '84 model year, 5,261 were GT350 20th Anniversay models. Of those 5,261 GT350 Anniversay models built, 16 were "VIP Convertible" models.
The Body Tags of all GT models were stamped with the letters GT but the Body Tags of all the GT350 20th Anniversary models were stamped with the letters ANN in the same location instead.

Man...I paid $6K for my car with 36K miles and that seems to be low-balling it from what I've seen. I'd bet if that car was a 20th Ann. VIP car it would be insanely expensive. I've seen people in Hemmings ask $10K for regular 20th Ann. cars with 70K miles. My car is #842 of 934...not one of 16. Your best bet is to ring up the good folks at Ford and ask for a build sheet for the car. Even if they can't give you an exact build sheet they should be able to supply you with the production info on the car based on the VIN. It took them a little bit for mine, but I got it to certify that it's a REAL GT350 (and for some reason it lists the Black Magic option which was for Capris only...go figure). Good luck man.

I wasn't aware that FoMoCo company supplied build sheets other that what may have been left in the vehicle after it rolled off the assembly line. If you're talking about a History 999 report (http://www.foureyedpride.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=266), those things are wrought with misinformation. I wouldn't be counting on one of those reports to affirm or deny anything. Those reports are a novelty more than anything else.
pocket3799's '84 LX convertible (http://www.foureyedpride.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=874) is NOT a GT350 model and therefore cannot be a "VIP convertible".

Thanks, I didn't know it had to be a GT 350 to be a VIP. That's why I asked.

I'm searching the GT350 Resgistry site right now,it mentions they were made, but does not specify what made them special.

They are no different then other Anny convertibles. All built were 5.0's.
They are different because they were made AFTER the original run of Anny's had been made. They are seriealed higher then all the other cars.
They were built special order for Ford executives.

Are any of these VIP cars around and documented,or are they incognito/in the mix-where they have been sold and the lucky owners don't know what they have?

I would say I have heard from over 50% of them. Mostly being that they went to executives and not to kids. Seems to be the same rule of thumb with regular convertibles also. Being more expensive kept them out of kids hands , thus keeping them in better condition longer and improvng their chances of survival.

So HOW does one tell if an alleged "VIP Convertible" is really one?

So HOW does one tell if an alleged "VIP Convertible" is really one?
Well, first you notice if it has a high serial number. Such as in the 180,000 range. Obviously it has to be a 20th Anny.
If it meets those and its an Anny convertible, then you contact Scott Moen and he has the complete VIN number list for all Anny's built.
Reach him through the GT350 site or I can put you in touch with him.

Maybe I'm reading this wrong but my vin is 1FABP27M3EF236368 and I thought we decided mine isn't a 20th Anny.
