86 mustang tail lights paint color???

Does anyone know the correct color of the trim on the 86 mustang gt tail lights? I need to refresh mine for the up and coming hot months.

if its the same as the SVOs, I think the SVOs were the lighter grey, 84-85s were dark grey

I also hear its a light grey...

But I painted mine black...don't like that grey look...looks faded.

It's not a light grey, it's dark charcoal. Course, after all these years, most have faded to a light grey. I had a bunch of my trim painted the correct factory colour, and the difference is amazing.

Not black, not light grey, but dark charcoal. Wish I still had the paint code.

Were only certain years available with the charcoal color? my 84 has black trim pieces..but i'm wondering if i could just use flat black...

When I buffed out the paint on my 85 last summer, I just buffed my taillights also and it really made them look great, including the charcoal trim on them. Don't use anything coarse on them though. Something like Race Glaze or similiar will do the trick. If you need to repaint it, I think you can get the paint in an aerosol can from Sem. I don't know the number of it though. Check with an autobody supplier. Maybe somebody out there has the number. I need some of that stuff too. Also, I think just the 85 and 86 have the Charcoal trim. Earlier years have the black trim. If so, get SATIN BLACK, as that really has a more correct look than the flat black. Hope this helps.
