I think my stock 85 5.0 capri hatch looks really funny. I was just wondering if there is any aftermarket for this year or any other hatches from other models that might fit my car. Well if anyone has anything to help me out with this, just let me know
thanks a lot

Man, don't ditch the bubble. If you do, however, you'll want to change the bumper and tails because other hatches with the bubble bumper looks really wrong. My 84 had an LX hatch (looked bad, I think I have pics somewhere) on it and one of the conditions of purchasing the car was the owner had to hunt down the old bubble hatch and put it on the car, regardless of what the hatch looked like. I wanted the bubble.
The bubble helps set the Capris further apart from Mustangs. Plus, it has proven aerodynamic benefits.

Hmm, you're going to get very opposite opinions from folks on that. Some love the bubble hatch. Others hate it. Any hatch from a '79-'86 Capri and '79-'93 Mustang hatch will bolt on. On the early years of both ('79-'82) the catch post and latch were different than the later years. The trouble you'll have is that the '83-'86 Capri taillights probably wont look right with something other than the bubble hatch.
In defence of the bubble hatch, Roush Racing ran the Mercury Capri from 1984-1986 in the SCCA Trans-Am series and took the title each year. They chose the Capri because that hatch dropped the drag coefficient from .47 for the Mustang style hatch to .38 for the bubble back hatch. It is a significantly better piece aerodynamically.
Here's a picture on an '86 Capri with a hatch from an '87-'93 GT.

So getting another hatch would probably slow me down,Well I can't have that now,But some of the capri's I've seen look way sicker than mine. Well thanks for the info. be back again

bubbles are cool, how many stangs do you see every day? the bubble is unique. as far as aerodynamics go, kauffman products did a buildup many years ago, their goal was a street stang that could do 200 mph, they couldn't quite get there until they put a bubble on it!!!!!!
it also gives much better visibility & a little more weight over the rear wheels.....

if your going by looks, its my opinion that the bubble looks ugly. it makes the capri look like a station wagon or something from the side view. but what do i know

I like the bubble myself.. but if you're set on getting the traditional hatch, keep the 83-86 bumper and tail lights, I think it gives it a sleek look, and its something you dont see everyday. Myself, I think the 83-86 capri tail lights look far better than the 79-82 ones (my opinion).
But you're so set on ditching the bubble hatch... why did you get a car that had one? Not to be rude.. its like getting a 79-86 Mustang or Capri to a newer style front end.. It blows me away.. If you wanted normal hatch bad enough, you should have bought the one that had it in the first place! Someone else could have been able to enjoy the uniqueness of that car.
Again, all of that was MY OPINION, so like it or lump it..
Well, you know what they say opinions are like...
That phrase has proven to me many times to be true. lol
