Hey ya guys!!! Now that the board is back up, I am curious to know if any of you have installed a 130 amp alternator in your Capri's or Stang's. I want to do this to my 84 Capri, but all of the sites I visit are for the 86-93 crowd. I know from previous experience with my electrical that it isn't all that different, but I would like instructions that are specific for the 79-85. If any of you have that info, i would like to see it to see what i am getting into. Thanks alot guys!!!

Ron,
I was thinking about this. I dont think there is a web site for this conversion.
I too was thinking about doing this on my Capri if I run into an alternator at the boneyard. I have an alternator out of my 93 Stang so I will compare the regulator pins on my Capri to the ones on the alternator. I would assume they use the same terminology so it would be a somple matter of extending your current wires to the alternator or getting a alternator harness out of a 86-93 Stang. They just plug in somewhere arround the battery. Anyway I will let you know this later this week.

I have found a couple of websites, but none are specific to a conversion using an internally regulated alternator on an early fox. I think i get a pretty good idea on what i need to do, and boy do i need to do it!!! It sux having to choose the heater or the rear window defog, because if i use both, the battery is dead in minutes!!!

I haven't tackled this one yet, but I'm going to soon. I doubt it'll be in time for your project though. I've got a 3G and a Mark VIII fan waiting to go on, but I need the RS to be functional first. Argh.

OK Ron I just did this conversion. Well not this one exactly but close enough. Monday night my alternator took a ****...... left me stranded. I got a ride home and grabed the battery out of the Stang and got my Capri home. Tuesday I spent time at the boneyard. I picked at 3G alternator from a 88 Turbo T-Bird. Its a 75 Amp one but for 14 bucks how could I go wrong. Well after some research I found there are 2 wires common on the external and internal systems. There is a green with red dots and yellow with white stripe wires. You remove them from the external regulator harness and then splice them to the internal regulator harness you aquire from the doner vehicle. WOW I tell you this, with everything on and on high the alternator charges at 13.59 volts. At idle with nothing on I have 14.50 volts. Send me a email and I can help you more if you need it.
BTW it was WAY cool to meet you and your girl Sunday! I was stoked and I am glad you had a chance to see my wife and my Capri! I wish the next trip I may come and see you!
Later my friend!

Dude, that is awesome!!! It almost makes me want to go to the boneyard here and do the same thing!!! An email of what you did would be awesome and a great help, especially coming from someone who has the same vehicle.
I was waiting for you to get online, but i suppose i could tell you that it was awesome meeting you and your wife as well and your Capri is very nice and very well put back together after it's unfortunate accident years and years ago. Here's hoping that we can meet up again soon and hopefully you will get to see my Capri next time.
I have a question or two about the rear that you have for me ( :D ) that i will email you later.

I think the 130amp conversion can be done... but I managed to get 110 with the stock configuration and it seems to be pretty sufficient

I just did this this conversion. My T-bird conversion took a dump. The regulator went bad. I decided to get a 130A 3G style alternator instead. The install went smooth. You only need 2 wires from your external regulator. The yellow and green wires are all you need. I went to the boneyard and cut a harnes from a 93 Merc Sable. The Ford version is the same but they have a 3G style alternator. Although it is a 3G its not the same size as the stock Capri. Anyway its just a simple cut and splice, color matching wires and a little bit of grinding on the alternator mount. It works well. 14.35 vdc at idle and under full load, I have 100W H1 high beams and 85/100w H4 low beams and working rear window defogger, with all this load and at idle the voltage was 12.89 volts with a slight drain due to the larger pulley of the 3G alternator. With a little rpm the voltage went back to 13.59 volts.
Its easy and well worth the effort.
