I am now less enthusiastic about my recent purchase.

I have been busy stripping out the interior of my '81 Capri RS to give it a thourough cleaning and to really dig deep into the overall condition of the car. To my dismay, I found this car has at some point been in a significant accident. The repairs were not readily apparent from the outside and with the interior in place and I know the prior two owners had no idea there was this type of damage in the car. The right side door, glass, rocker panel, right rear quarter panel and right rear wheel well have been replaced. The right rear top also has a slight wrinkle in it. However, the part that really bothers me is that the passenger side floor pan is all beat to hell with multiple wrinkles and cracks in it along some of the wrinkles. These extend all the way from the front footwell all the way back to rear seat area. The floor pan obviously should have been replaced when the other repairs were done, but it wasn't

So the big questions are: is it possible to get replacement floor pans, how much are they, is it cost prohibitive to replace the floor pan, and if it is, is anyone interested in buying a '81 Capri RS with a balanced late '60s 302, and a slipping AOD and 8.8 track lock rear out of a '92 Mustang GT?

Since the interior is already stripped, maybe I could continue in that vein and strip it out and sell the parts. Or maybe I could weld in a set of subframe connectors and a roll cage, replace the original floor pan with sheetmetal and begin to create a dedicated open track car! Or maybe I could step back into reality and sell the car?

I feel your pain. I've found full length floor pans at Mill's Supply, out of Georgia. They're priced at $122.95 apiece. I couldn't tell you about the quality. YET. Good luck!

Ive also heard to avoid late-model restoration (i think thats what its called), theyre FBs are a thinner gauge and wont fit without hammering.

Not my experiance, just what ive been told, so i wont stand by the info, but will pass it on:D

Put the floor pan in it and install subframe connectors with the seat support built in if worried about the car being in a accident measure the whells from center to center on both sides that will give you an idea if the car is trwisted or not .

Last year I had my driver's side floor pan replaced. I didn't have the time or tools(since then I've bought a mig) to do it myself so I had a bodyshop do it. Total cost was just over $700 parts and labour, I think the floor pan was about $170 Canadian but i'd have to find the bill to be sure . That may sound like a lot to some people but I sure as hell couldn't replace my car for $700.

Where did you find the floor pan. I have found a lot of vendors in the US but haven't found one in Canada.
