Was the car made in '85 cause the book i was reading sayes it was made in '86, but everything else on the car indecates it was made in '85. The date stamped on the door tag is 09/85.

It's a model year 86 car. Capri #2286. They start building the cars for the "next" model year a year early. For example, my 85 was #987 to roll off the line, it was built Sept. 4th of 1984. They continued building 85s well into 1985, and then around late Aug they switched to Model Year 86 cars.

So, all is well. Your car is an early production 86.

Major difference between the two years is the engine, 1986 was the introduction of the 5.0 EFI and '85s had a carbed 5.0 or the horrible CFI 5.0. I think that the 2.3 and 3.8s were the same for both years.

MY 87 cougar has a cfi 3.8, that thing is a real gem.
