Are the '79 and '81 Capri RS taillights the same?
Is $40 for a single NOS taillight a good price?

79-82 are the same. 83-86 are the short weird ones for the bubble bumpers that won't fit anything else. 40.00 for NOS is VERY fair, so long as it really is NOS.

if/when you do get them, please post a picture. I'm in the process of restoring mine and need to repaint them. There was enough paint weathered off that I really don't have a good refrence.

I haven't received them yet, but here is a picture of them. From this picture and looking at my '81, it appears the paint covers all of the "fin" portion. I'll give a better description once I get it in my warm little hands.

Are those "stripes" satin black or flat black. I've got the paint all off mine, lenses all polished up and waiting for paint.

The black on the tail lights is satin. It is the same sheen as what the blackout trim around the windows and on the mirrors should be. Of course if it's oxidized, it'll be FLAT black, but it should be a satin.
Also the factory paint job on the tail lights is not a very good one. The paint is supposed to go all the way to the base of the strips leaving only the flat part between the strips unpainted. Most of it comes really close. Also, this paint does not have a sharp line along that edge. The lens does not appear to have been masked. It's more like a stencil was placed over the lens so that the fins stuck out through the holes and then it was painted.

The correct paint is called "Trim Black" and you can get it at any autobody supplies shop.
