This is my first visit to this board. I like it already.
Where can I order the hood Decal/stripe for my 86? Does it come as the entire decal, or do I have to paint it on using the GT emblem and then removing that? Thanks in advance for your help.
I belive that it is still avalible from Ford.....it is about $100

Howdy!
Welcome aboard!
I put a new GT stripe on my 85 a few years ago. Oh what fun! Or...something.
To put it on, you're going to want to have a huge spray bottle of soapy water (dish detergent soap is fine), no wind, and a whole lot of patience. MANY, MANY ppl wind up getting the decal to fold up on itself. It's best if you have a friend to help hold it as you apply. A squeegee in new/very good shape is also needed.
Soap the living heck out of that hood and the underside of the decal. This will help you to move the decal a bit if you get it off center. Work any bubbles out from the center to the edge. Some tiny bubbles are okay and will actually likely disappear in a few weeks. Once you have it where you want it and bubbles worked out, take of the top protective layer.
I managed to get mine on with no big bubbles, no folds, no rips and as close to center as I've seen on some factory cars (none of 'em will be EXACTLY PERFECT).
I'm sure some others might have some helpful details, and if I remember any more, I'll certainly post them, but it has been a pretty long time.
As for keeping the stripe looking nice? Keep it out of the elements as much as possible. Garage that car, keep it covered, and DO NOT power wash it!
Sometimes you can pick up hood stripes on Ebay. I'm not sure if they're easily gotten through Ford these days.

Graphics Express has a decal for about $70, but I don't know how good it is. I got my repro GT decals from them and had no problems.

I made a GT stencil for mine for about the cost of an lamination sheet!! I just traced one out on a piece of paper then put it in the copier and copied it onto the lamination sheet. The rest of the the work can just be taped off and painted and in my opinion it looks much better painted and cleared than the dull looking decal.

85lx50hatch, Any chance you still have the stencil? I think I'm going to paint the hood stripe on. If not, anyone else have any really good pics of their hood stripe that I could use to make a stencil?
Anyone out there have any color codes that match the hood stripe? I've been using a Ford charcole (sp?) bumper paint made by SEM, but it comes in the can, and I don't think I want to use canned paint to paint the stripe back on.
BTW, I've been sanding and polishing the paint, and it's looking mighty fine! I'm happy with first base/clear job.

If you email me your address I can make a stencil for you and send it to you. I have the solid paper and just have to make a copy onto a lamination sheet.

I need your mailing address so that I can send you a stencil. I don't want to step on anyone's toes here (cal-mustang), but it costs under a dollar to make this stencil. If you don't mind me asking, how much does for the whole stencil kit from you? The only ones I could ever find were like 60 bucks or more, so I just made my own.

I appreciate (in advance) you sending me the stencil. My e-mail address is Thomas.Christopher@hurlburt.af.mil
Thanks again. I like a $1 much better than $60-100

Never have received the stencil. Can anyone here provide me with a good closeup of the bottom part (gt and 2 lines) of the GT sticker on the hood. I'm going to paint it on and then clear over it.
BTW, I've ordered my personalized plates. 4IDMULE
