there was a guy who took an SVO down to Australia, he managed to convert the car to right hand drive.

Gotta love the HUGE headrests! Hey, I've got 4 of those "Ultra low profile" TRX rims and tires. Anyone want 'em? Those Benz tailights are certainly different, as are the mirrors on the doors. In all, a cool car. Pull the turbo badges off and it would have been a good sleeper during the low horsepower days of the oil embargo.

Just a thought, Imagine trying to find a dash pad for one of those?

Where do I start?! The rear tailights are from a British Ford Escort, the dash pad is a one off item which wasnt much more than a vinyl covered lump of foam, the steering rack is from the European Ford Granada. The Auto versions had the same shifter as US cars, so the button was obviously on the wrong side! They have unique front dash fascia although the instruments are the same. They were only available as 2.3T or straight six cars and heres the best bit, you can pick them up for peanuts. I was offered one a few weeks back running but scruffy for £100!

Don, you ARE the man! Those mirrors on the doors in the pictures, do they look like that in person? Also, did they offer the Cobra version as well?

As with most US cars over here My SVO (and the others!) was left here by a returning US serviceman after their time here. It used to be that they could make more money here than back home, but I dont know if thats still the case.My 82 still has a US Government Department of Defence label attatched to the front airdam, its probably nothing to you over there but little things like that we go mad for!
The RHD cars were only offered as Ghia's, no Cobra Im afraid and only with the two engine options.
Unfortunately American cars have never been popular over here as they are seen as too thirsty (our fuel is nearly £4.50 a gallon!) expensive to maintain (complete myth, see how much a BMW costs too service) and just cumbersome. Only the enlightened amongst us know the truth!! Theres no finer sound in the world than a V8 on cam!

Oh and yes those mirrors are exactly like that, disgusting huh?! They were also available mounted on the doors in the same way later convertibles are.
