Does anyone know if you can take just the door panels from an 87+ and put them on an 86? I found a pair of them pretty cheap and wouldnt mind having the door speakers. but I am not going to commit to anything if it is goign to be a pain in the ass to get them to fit right.

you do have to cut the door to put the speaker in,
and there is one screw that does line up, and you can just use a sheet metal screw or something.
you would also have to rewire your swtiches, or get the door harness too, that actuall plugs right in.

Stick with the original door panels. Cutting the holes for the speakers are a pain, and most of the sound gets muffled by your legs anyway. If you want a better soundscape, put speakers right underneath the quarter windows and run the wire underneath the doorsills or the carpet (whichever you prefer). This is the setup that I have in my car 3.5"s in the dash, 4"s under the quarter window, and 6x9s in a custom box in the hatch, it directs the sound right to your ears without being muffled by anything.

thats a damn good idea...much easier to do too...although after looking at the last MM&FF where they took out the rear seat and built a speaker box out of it I think that has some possibilities too
