There's been talk on another board about a Turbo 2.3 powered 1982 Mustang GT unearthed. The owner of the GT hasn't been able to get anyone to help confirm that this car is real.

I have received copies of what he has to document the car.

The digit in the VIN is indeed 'T' which Ford used to indicate a turbo 2.3 motor. A 999 report confirms a turbo 2.3 was installed in this car. He has a copy of the Canadian Mustang brochure which lists the turbo 2.3 as an option, which the US brochure does not, as the turbo four was dropped from the Mustang/Capri line in the US for Model Year 1982.

I've uploaded the documentation he's provided and have it available for viewing in this photo album:

A second person has come forward on a message board stating that he, too, has a Canadian Turbo 2.3 GT. Unfortunately, we haven't gotten any information from that person yet.

Take a look at the album and let us know what you think. We're looking for anyone who can help to confirm authenticity of this car. I think it is likely that Ford decided to dump off remaining Turbo 4s (the 79-81 style motors) in Canada that year, and that this car is legit, and should prove to be with enough work.

Taking a guess by the consecutive unit number, it looks like a mid to late June 82 build. This other Turbo 4 GT is a July 2nd build.

From an email I received a while back:

Hello

Looking at your foureyedpride.com site, noticed the debate about a Canadian 82 2.3 Turbo. I'm a parts guy at a Ford dealership just outside Toronto. When I look at the catalogue cards going back to the early 80s, I see a 'T' as the VIN code for the early 2.3 turbos, and in the fuel section with the calibration listings for the various car model / engine combos, it does list a 2.3 turbo for 82 Mustang with a calibration code of 1-05F-R10. The 1- indicates it's actually a 1981 level calibration, and when I go back to the 81 listing, it shows the same thing, 2.3L Turbo (Canada).

Just to add however, over the years I have found listings for many things that don't actually exist, so take this with a grain of salt I guess !!

cheers

restortation.

Jeff has parked the car for awhile. He wants to recover the seats and do a complete strip and repaint. Very fortunate car was never winter driven, never in a major accident other than the door and is rust free. I think it only has about 120KM or 70k miles on it. alan

Im curious as to whether this is a carb turbo or EFI turbo.

I have heard of Canadian turbo 2.3L's in '82 but the only thing I have seen was a drawing from a Ford manual that showed a exhaust manifold mounted T03 like the EFI cars but had a pipe to a bonnet blowing into a carb sitting on the intake.

So I am curious as to the configuration.

It's a carb'd setup. Very similar to the 79-18 turbos except the vacumn controls and Idle solinode differ.
